Thread: Bought some wheels and need some help

I just bought some 15 x 7 +35 mm wheels and need to find a tire that will take up stock wheel height and not have a wheel well gap looking like a Frontier. I am thinking 205 50 15 or 195 55 15 which is a more standard size but I could lower the car with some road magnets but I hate lowered rides. I have never had success with lowering cars and they always ride too rough for my liking. Anybody with any similar setups, please let me know how you did it and what it looked like. thanks

225/45/15 is the perfect tire for keeping the stock diameter and looks great IMO. Performance is nice too. They fit great on 15 x 7 wheels with your offset and stock ride height. Your street tire options in that size are very limited though. Hankook Ventus RS-3 and maybe one or two others.

Most people settle for 205/50/15 tires because there is much more selection and getting the right offset to clear everything isn't as important. They are a little taller than the 225/45/15 though.

are you serious with that 225 45s? would that not be too much sidewall?

Both tire sizes have circa the same sidewall height
225mm x 0.45 = 101.25mm
205mm x 0.50 = 102.5mm

Not much difference in them and they basically have the same rolling diameter as to not have the speedo (and trip meter) be off from factory calibrated specs
225 is about as much as I would want to run on a 7inch wide wheel without the tire "folding" on itself along the sidewall (this is for street tires BTW). I have a chart that matches up wheel width vs tire width..........If I remember to look for it, I will post it

P.S. A word of advice, if you want to reduce wheel gap, get proper suspension.........Increased sidewall size is just going to raise the car up (and not necessarily fill this "gap" you are so worried about)

as compared to a 195 55 = 107.25 mm

the speed o would be off by 3 percent, which wheel would look the best with stock ride height? I am not a wheel expert. the 45 and 50 series are low profile tires so I am guessing they will have a smaller footprint with more wheel well gap?

a NX2000 comes with 195 55 14 which is 22.44 dia

205 50 15 is 23.07 dia

225 45 15 is 22.97 dia

so do you want the wheels with the closest diameter to the originals? I guess I am looking for that and the smallest wheel well gap, which of those will do that?

I thought you wanted sidewall. That's the only way you're going to fill in that fender well. Every inch of sidewall you add, you will fill in the gap by 1/2".

If the tires didn't have rim protectors, they would look flared quite a bit. Because the tires have rim protectors, they look square.




To keep your speedometer reading accurately and the final drive ratio the same, yes. Otherwise, you can go bigger or smaller if you want. Bigger will make your speedo show less speed than you are actually traveling. It will also make all of your gears "longer". Smaller does the opposite obviously. You'd want to go bigger to fill in that stock fender gap.

You can't keep the stock diameter to retain speedo accuracy and final drive ratio and fill in the fender gap. You can't do both. Unless you just lower the damn car. =]

That is now 2 for suspension work.

As I mentioned before, the problem with adding sidewall is two fold
1) You will fill the gap in somewhat
2) You will also be raising the car up by the same amount

Adding sidewall to fix this "gap" issue is a band aid.
