Overheating with the A/C on on extremely hot days trick
We all know the NX has no grill or way for heat to escape, espically with headers. I found a trick that worked if you, like me overheat (temps go up) when you have the A/C on while cruisng. Slightly put the HVAC lever to the tip of the heat setting. Not only will that bleed off some heat, it is ever so slight a adjustment, that if your A/C is cold enough it should not make a difference. If this is an old trick, my bad. LOL. Now I am not talking about putting the heat in full blast. That would make the inteior uncomfortable. And it could stay that way too.

Ian, you are band-aiding, duct taping, and rigging a half-assed solution to a problem that you should address at the root.

Your temps go up while cruising with the AC on? WTF?

I would assert that your Silla radiator may be the issue.

That NX2K radiator is 1 1/4 inches thick.

According to...you....your Silla is:

Not even an inch thick. You downgraded your radiator thickness. What is the capacity on that Silla? How much coolant does it take compared to a NX2K? I am betting less coolant.

While the radiator company may have stated that thing is "better", you do not address the questions posed about how much coolant fits in that radiator, and the last guy in your thread had a bad experience with the cooling efficiency of that radiator.

Read this post from Miko, and the next one from him.

We have NX2K (for Classic-guys), GTIR (I own one), Mishimoto, and Koyo, just to name a few radiator upgrades.

Nismo Radiator & High Power Fans

Slim fans for days. Push or pull, high velocity, which can be wired up multiple ways (automatic or user-operated).

Use a radiator shroud. Have someone fabricate one if necessary.

Install an oil-cooler to help with overall heat management.

You should address your thermal issues at the source.

Happens on the new beetles as well. Form over function. =/

I am having some of the same issues as well. not too bad but jut a little warmer than I would like. Although I am not too familiar with this nx yet I'm sure the tmic doesnt help.

Shawn. I had a Modine 2 core radiator and a factory radiator in there. The Silla has nada to do with it. It is the heat generated in the nose of the NX at higher temps. There is no way of air to circulate. I do not overheat in bumper to bumper traffic. Ironic huh?
I know it is a bandaid. If I were to cut out holes in the nose and add a girll like others have and or add a Koyo it would help even more. Also a Nismo thermostat, but that mod will not be useful in the winter when I need temps to actually rise.
Been dealing with this since 2002:

It is a wonder it does not happen on Civics too. But the guys with mods do not have A/C anyway.
I am going to get header sleeves to cut down some underhood temps.

Car overheats with AC on - SR20 Forum

Ian, I'd be buying a Koyo to stuff into the nose of my NX. Damn the cost, full speed ahead.

Can you easily switch out the thermostat, from Nismo back to stock, in the cold weather?

Your current sort-of-solution is just crazy to me.

I am seriously considering a KOYO Shawn. Espically since I just discovered the alternator can be taken out from the top by loosening the motor mount.

My problem isn't really with overheating, but with the a/c not cooling while sitting.
I recently installed a rebuilt compressor, expansion valve and dryer. The pressures are okay, but part of the issue I think is in the fact I went with R134. The car blows in the high 50's rolling down the road, but sitting at a light in the middle of the day the temps get into the lower 80's.
I am going to be installing B15 fans on the NX2000 soon.
I have them on the turbo SE-R and they work fantastic!

How high is the temp gauge going up? I agree with Shawn that you shouldnt use a band aid to cover something potentially serious.

Ive been out of the N/B series nissan's for a while so I havent heard of the Sila but sounds like some ChiCom crap. Also stay away from Mishimoto, they are chinese crap. Koyo would be the only thing I would think of replacing a OEM system.

If you worried about heat extraction the car gets sufficient flow thru lower grill into the radiator and underneath the car. If wanted more you could do the old school trick of lifting the rear of the hood just a tad.
