No Charge condition
I have a remanufactured alternator in my car. The OEM Failed on me about 4 months ago so replaced it with one from Advanced w/lifetime incase the headers burnt it up. Since then the orginal replacement the pulley locked up on the interstate and the belt was tight enough it cranked it and snaped the mount bolts(long tensioner and the one that goes through the bottom) the alternator was hanging in the engine bay.

Now the second replacement is giving a intermittant no charge when it us under 4k on the tach. And I take it into advance and it tests good.....of course it is intermittant. Is there anything else that can cause this?

Also the long tensioner bolt i pulled from a scarp yard twited off when I was loosening it. Anyone have a spare?

Also forgot the part list at advanced listed that a incomplete curcit in the lighting system(burnt bulb) could cause a no charge condition. This sounds kinda fishy to me anyon ran across that before?

I made them swap out the alternator. Put it together last weekend and all week everything was good. The yesterday afternoon I got on the interstate and this happened:

Daaaaamn.

I wonder if the super tight belt caused that, or if the problem was there from the beginning of your alternator issues.

This generally happens from overtightening the belt.

Well I think it was part of the start of my alty issues. First I had the remany that the pulley seized on breaking a couple bolts. Replaced it and it worked great for awhile then intermittent charge issue. Which may have been the alty or the pulley spinning. either way I didn't hear any squeal. I think the first time the new alty failed it broke the outer band loose and then just developed from there.

I just replaced mine not to long ago, but I think it was probably from age/mileage instead of overtightened. Had 209k on it. I was having alt issues to, but mine was because the pig tail going to the alt was fried and someone else put a new end on, they just twisted the wires together and taped it up

yes thats true but, its not going to happen overnight when you over tighten it.
