Nick McCollom is still around, and he still has his car. I saw him a few weeks ago when we drove up to Rochester, NY for the annual Salt Fest SE-R meet. He has a young daughter now so he hasn't had time to work on his NX in a while.

We both showed up to the Great Lakes Bash in 1999 and had twin Sapphire Blue NXs. Our VINs were only a few hundred apart (I'd have to check the registry to remember the exact figure). His had 45k miles and mine 70k miles back then.
