Went to look at a 93 tonite. Dead batt had to jump it off. Got a good chance to look it over while owner found some jumper cables.
Issues:
- needs a tranny (1-2 shift crunches bad and 5th gear doesn't exist)
- needs a clutch too
- driver side cv boot torn
- needs a battery and/or an alternator (runs with a jump, but headlights start dimming out above 6000 and it starts sputtering beyond 6500 rpm)
- needs driver side front fenders
- no back seat
- cluster lights go on and off as you drive (might be related to issue 2 above or possible loose wire somewhere)
- world's shortest short shifter feels like crap
- motor mounts shot
- rear brake lights on at all times
- driver side rear light cracked
Highlights:
- rust free shell. I checked rear strut towers, hatch area floor, and front door jambs and all look great.
- good ole SR20 pulls strong through 6000, then issues above
- power windows work, but pass side seems like it is out of the track (needs help to stay aligned on the way up)
The guy really didn't know anything about the car. I heard some timing chain noise and he tried to tell me it didn't have a timing chain "It's got a timing belt" LOL. Motor sounded good overall, I've got to get a good tranny and clutch in there to know for sure. He didn't know about the axle nor the motor mounts being bad. I asked him what he wanted for it and he said $800. I used the Rodney technique and pulled out less cash and asked if he would take it. He accepted.
I have several of the things I'll need in the garage already. Pics to come in the morning.
