Thread: Aftermarket hatch struts?

Well, if you find some other 19" struts, the Sachs/Stabilus ones have 124 lbs of force. Just as a reference point.

I have the same ones, and they work fine... but I don't expect the hatch to raise automatically. Your best bet is probably to mod/replace the rubber stops that the hatch rests on when closed.

I hadn't even thought of that as an option, thinking about it, it seems like a completely plausible idea.

I've seen Camaros where the rear hatch clip was similar to ours, but they had modded the inside where the locking mechanism was to a little motor, and then you hit the button on a remote, it would pop the hatch, and then also raise it up about 2-4 inches... like a solenoid on the latch, and then a little electric motor that pushed up afterwords. That would be great to have on our cars if we could fit something like that...

alot of cars have that, where theres a motor that actually latches it. you dont have to slam it, just close it lightly and the omotoro latches down

I checked the rubber stops and mine look perfect. Unless they compress significantly over time this won't be the prime mover in this exercise. I'd think the liner on the body would compress more over time. What we want is tension in that closed system. Some 19" hatch struts for a Camaro for instance would probably help a lot. Anything that is close in size, and meant to lift a heavier hatch.

You could wire any OEM Nissan(or other) unit with a remote trunk pop into your alarm system. Just foodfor thought. This may require you to abandon the lever by the driver seat.

I have had decent luck with the ebay struts...hmm.I am in FL though.
as for the broomstick...ouch,that hatch will chop you in half,at least the vicegrips slip slowly.
I saw that you said the hatch latch was adjusted all the way down,that is how I have fixed a couple nxs over the years.That is weirdIt should pop ,in fact if you adjust it too far,it should be hard to close.
Maybe the holes could be slotted...I need to go look.

I picked up a brand new set from the dealer.Expensive but well worth it.

How much is expensive?

It's over $200 for the set.

for me, they're a hair over $190. so OEM is expensive.
