I had a friend who used a broom handle on his 83 escort, and blew the back window out.

I used the hatch tray to prop mine up - has had this problem for about 3 years. But I will try the vise grips - thanks for the suggestion.

Like a lot of you, the problem goes away in the warm summer. $200! I'll buy some vise grips instead...

Benito,
The ebay ones works great. Once installed per the instructions, you can do 2 things to improve operations.

1. Tighten the struts all the way down tight by turning strut unit clockwise.
2. Important. Loosen the truck latch screws and adjust the latch position UP near the top of the slot & then retighten the screws. This allows a quicker & more powerful release. If you loosen too much, the truck lid will vibrate. Just play with the adjustments until the vibration leaves & the truck pops.
(3. Replace the trunk lid PADS. The little circular pads wears our & gets thin.. I used high density foam disk 1.5 inches thick with gorilla grip double-sided tape.)

Took me a week of adjusting the truck latch screws, until finally getting the desired performance.

I threw mine all the way down in the slot. Figured it would pop harder that way. Guess I'll try it opposite. I want bigger struts to pop it harder. I want it to pop itself all the way up.

That wont happen... They never pop all the way up.. The rear lid is wayyy to heavy ! !

Raising the latch will let it popup high enough to close the front doors w/o sucking down the lid...

You could purchase an electric popper for the trunk, but it will probably take 2 of them (one on each side)... Then you will need a way to activate the thing... If you have a remote alarm w/trunk feature, that would work for activation great!
