NX Strut Tower Chemotherapy
Okay all.. I found a few rust cancer spots on my rear strut towers..
No breakthru's yet but I want to stop the damage!!

So, Im starting this thread to document how best to treat & stop the rust from spreading.
Here are questions that Im asking fellow NX owners:

1. Where do you have your rust?
2. How are you battling it?
3. What products are you using? (please provide product links)
4. What products are working and what products dont?

Hopefully, this will benefit all Egg owners. All of our eggs will eventually encounter this.
If we dont have a plan, we will loose our valuable & fun little eggs...

Thanks everyone..

Please post your solutions.
Note: New replacement NX OEM strut towers are no longer available!!

Mine just underwent a bit of surgery due to rust. I had bad rocker panel rust under the rear, smaller portion of the side skirt in front of the rear wheels, and 1 bad rear strut tower, also 1 hole in the driver side wheel well. Oh i almos forgot to mention the a pillar rust.

For repairing we sanded down the rusted areas to see how far the rust actually was then cut out the bad areas. We then made new pieces of metal welded them in place grided down the welds, and epoxy primered almos the entire car, especcially the repaired areas. Then use body filler and sand that down smooth, prime then paint. As far as brands i used u-pol primer, clear, and wanda base color code tj4. I dont recall the brand of the epoxy primer, but i am pretty sure any brand would suffice.

Well heres some pics. If you have the resources and the patients, and money, also someone that knows what they are doing you can fix almost anything. Heres some pics.

pass side rear strut tower

fixed, i didnt care how nice this looked beacuse i put my carper over it anyway, i just wanted it to be strong.

I have like at least 150 more pics of the whole rust repair/ complete repaint of my car. My good friend jon and i did all of this in about 2 months worth of us spending a couple hours on it just about every day in his garage which is set up like a spray booth.

Great pics and repairs...

My rust spots is nothing compared to yours. My spots are quarter size bubbles.

I will remove my side molding and take a look at my rocker panels for possible rusting..

Thanks

^^ I have a clean white shell with ZERO rust for sale!!! lol

Depending on how deep the bubble gotten, I'd sand the rear down and put a nice coat of sound deadening like this Elemental Designs
