Checking in from ohio
Hey all, new member from dayton ohio. Just picked up a 91 se-r 5 speed with 92k miles on it. Saw it in a parking lot about 5 years ago and left a note on the windshield. Got a call saying he didn't want to sell yet but would let me know when he did. Fast forward to last weekend when I got a call from a unknown number and was floored he remembered me. Went to check it out and found it was in pretty good shape. A little rust on the rocker panels and a dime sized spot on the rear floor. Removed the trunk lining and checked no rusted out or separated strut tower, same for the front. Told him right then I would buy it, he looked at me so confused and asked if I wanted to drive it first oh yeah, lets do that. Found out he was the original owner and only drove it 5 miles a day back and forth to work. Super excited to get back into a sr20 nissan, had a 92 NX that I loved and miss dearly. So that's my super long new member post. Looking forward to being part of the site

Thanks for the warm welcome. My plan so far is to get the body in better shape and go from there. Ill try to get some pics tomorrow.I got back from driving it on the first non rainy day we had and I noticed a puddle under the left rear. Open the trunk and the left side and under the spare tire were full of water. Started stripping the interior of the trunk to find any more places or obvious spots it could be leaking and realise I'm not going to fit my big self in this trunk to check for leaks so I took out the back seat so I can lay through there and run water over the trunk while I'm inside looking around. Found the rust hole in the floor board is a little bigger than I thought once I chipped away some of the rust. So now I'm off to pull the full interior and check for any more spots I may need to fix. Hopefully it will be worth saving. Bonus if it is I will have the interior striped so no better to put down some rust proofing

Kick-ass story!!! Welcome back. A little bit of rust inhibitor shall do the trick. If too gnarly, weld some new stuff in. subscribed for photos.

Found the water leak in the trunk. Its coming in through the tail lights. Started doing my basic checks on the engine and found the guy I bought it from just had a new distributor, wires, igniter, and plugs put in it. Down side is they are champion plugs. Off to the parts store for butyl tape, NGK plugs and an air filter.

Here I did find a small bit of rust on the left rear strut tower

Some behind the right rear interior trim panel as well

Right side wheel well rusting through a bit

And the hole in my floor behind the drivers seat

So for a 26 year old daily driven car in Ohio I would say not too bad. I am waiting for the weather to warm back up and I will tackle the hole in the floor board myself. Clean the strut tower as best I can use some rust converter and respray it. I plan on getting a estimate from a pro body shop for the wheel wells and rocker panels. Depending on what they say will determine if I try to fix it and keep it like a forever car or cut the rust out bondo it up and drive it until it falls apart on me
