I'm building a 1991 B13
Plans are:

SR20VE
- use DE everything including ECU
- Greddy MSS on its way from Japan

My first SE-R I only did intake and exhaust. Never saw too many gains but it was my first car I absolutely loved it. Great performance and pop for the price. It's been over a decade and I'm ready to build this one right.

If you're ready to build it "right" then get an ecu with a tunable daughteboard or a standalone.

Sure it'll run on all DE stuff and an MSS but that's in no way the right way.

that does sound like it would be fun but I'm not building a monster. My plan is to just have an enjoyable daily driver. I was actually pretty happy with the old SR20DE that was in it but figure the extra 30 horses will be nice.

Welcome.you will find alot of good info here both old and new.

I am afraid to say that those extra 30 horses you are wanting are not the engine, but the tuning.I agree with @Sentraga.
If you run all DE stuff, and switch the cams ,you will have no more power than a DE.Maybe even less torque down low.
It may seem a tad faster due to higher compression, but it will be really rich and just get louder and more out of tune with the cams switched over.

Dont get me wrong, the car will run ok,but its not just drop in 30hp and go. Its a great way to get the car together and driving while you decide what to do about a tune.
For example,I took one of my VE setup on all de stuff, ebay header, and put down 145whp...then a bigger maf and tuned it made 180whp on stock cams, and a ebay header.
Doesn't seem like alot, but from a driveability standpoint it was like NIGHT and DAY. across the whole RPM range.

Just some food for thought.Enjoy your build, and if you haven't yet...check out the Manifesto at the top of the pages.
Theres alot of great info and builds all compiled in one place
BTW My modified VE cars are daily drivers that see 75-100 miles a day commute and they run like they came out of the factory built that way.I would not have it any other way(old dude,here....lol)

After giving your idea some thought, checking the other posts and @eggmans comment I think you are totally right. I talked to nismotronic and they are going to program my DE ECU to go with my MSS and get my project running right!

Thanks @Sentraga !!!!
