92 nx2000 need help diagnosing transmission problem
Ok, So I am having an issue with my 92 nx 2.0 liter with 5 speed tranny.
I am usually successful at searching forums to diagnose car related issues, but this one proves to be a tough one
I hope I am able to describe it thoroughly enough to get everyone thinking in the right direction
So.. I am a fairly easy driver these days (tore up my share of trannys, but I have been quite kind to this one)
My problem began suddenly, while taking an exit from the highway.
I pressed the clutch and pulled the car out of 5th gear.
When I went to find 3rd, I could not find it immediately.
Upon noticing this, I wiggled the shifter around, and thought it felt a little stiffer than usual
I tried putting it into various gears, and the only way to describe it, is that they all seemed to be floating around
Like the linkage had come loose.
I was able to make it to where I was heading, parked, and played around with the shifter with the engine turned off
I could find first, and move through the gears somewhat ok, just feeling floaty and stiff..
Until I attempted to move over into 5th and reverse. At which time, there seemed to be something blocking the horizontal movement of the shifter
Eventually I could get it to move over, and go from 5th to reverse ok. But then moving it back to 1-4 would prove to have the same blockage
which I would be able to get past after wiggleing it around up and down.
When I would start the engine and find what I hoped was neutral, I would let the clutch out, and I will hear a rattling noise, Like a metal arm is resting on a gear as it spins.
I was able to drive the car home, and get under the car to check the linkage, and found a bolt loose, which was connecting one of the control arms to a bracket on the motor mount.
I was excited thinking I had found the culprit, tighten the bolt, but no luck ... I checked the rest of the linkage assembly, but everything seemed to be in order aside from the one loose bolt.
Checked the tranny fluid as well, but was pretty much full.

I hope I have described this issue sufficiently enough to provoke some answers, let me know if I can provide anymore useful information
I will be thankful for any input on this matter!
Thank you

Rear motor mount would be my guess.

Honestly Im not exatly sure how old the clutch is, its an OEM clutch, if I had to guess, I would 150k miles on it.. But it doesnt seem to be a clutch related issue, as the problem persists regardless of clutch location... If it is the clutch,I would be curious to know in what way it would create this issue

I've had the rear mount actually come off the engine and the motor was resting on the linkage in the rear - perhaps move it around with someone looking at the engine and see?

Thank you for the suggestion, But the motor mount is still attached and seemingly working as it should... the only way I could see the motor mount being the culprit, is if it has shifted slightly, and caused the linkage to become out of alignment.

When the spring pops out of the disk it could have that same effect

Yes, I am planning on doing that this weekend, Just trying to get some insight, in case it might be something simpler than dropping the tranny.

This was my first thought. You mentioned going thru a few trannies...on this car? If the trans has been swapped, it's possible an alignment pin got left out of the case...which can also cause a spring to pop out of the disk.
