looking for a g20
Hi guys. I'm looking for a G20 for a commuter car. I'd like to swap in an sr20det motor eventually. Right now I've got my eye on a 95' G20, and a 99' G20t. I'm leaving towards the 99' because it's got the LSD trans, but will the car being OBDII make the swap any more complicated?

Welcome!

Probably the more important thing to figure out is whether you actually prefer the P10 or P11 chassis. The OBD2 will not make a huge difference in the DET swap. But also, if you prefer the p10 chassis (as many of us do), it is not hard at all to swap in an LSD transmission. The 99 p11 LSD transmission isn't the super strong one anyway.

If you don't have a clear preference chassis-wise just get whichever car is in the best shape.

I don't have much experience with either chassis. I like the body style of the p11, but the lighter weight of the p10. Will OBDII and a swap matter much emmissions wise? (they do the sniffer for OBDI, and plug into the ecu for ODBII).

The two cars handle very differently. Test drive them before you make a choice. Unless you just want a reliable car to drive around in. Both fit the bill in that regard.

x2 on what Kyle said. Don't forget the p10 has independent rear suspension, where the p11 has a beam. As for plugin OBDII emissions testing with e DET swap in a p11, I think you're ok on a 99 ecu with Nistune or maybe Nismotronic. IIRC 00+ you'd have to step down to an older OBDII ecu. Someone more knowledgeable than myself on later ECUs can chime in.

I need a daily driver, but I want something with some pep, and decent handling.

Unfortunately most P10's are either automatic or rusted to shit, or both.

There are many good condition P11's but even more of them are automatic (as Infinity marketed this car towards women pretty much)

Good luck. I wish I had a '02 G20T 5-speed, in white. Couldn't find any
