1991 SE-R with 80k miles in Idaho
I was planning on posting something here 2 years ago; oh well, life just gets busy (I've got three children, two of which are teenagers). I bought the SE-R that was listed on AutoTrader and talked about on the forum a couple years ago; I had it shipped from Texas. It's very, very clean. The original paint is not the greatest, especially after I removed the aftermarket protective door/body strips and pinstripes. I originally bought the SE-R for my son when he got his learner's permit. I owned a 1993 NX2000 about 12 years ago and still think it’s one of the most fun cars I’ve driven (as is this SE-R). My wife didn't like the idea of our son driving a car that didn't have ABS or airbags, so I've been driving it for the last 2+ years. It was pretty much stock when I bought it (besides a crappy muffler, an aftermarket antenna, an Alpine stereo, and a Clifford alarm). I’ve really enjoyed this forum with all the information that’s available (I used to read se-r.net back in the day). One of the first things I did was replace the butyl rubber around the tail lights and replace the the original fog lights with new Bosch units. I tried finding some original fog lights on the forum but couldn’t find any. I searched the internet for SE-R fog lights and couldn’t find any either. I decided to pull mine out and found a number on the back of them. I then did an internet search for Bosch and the number and found new Bosch fog lights for less than $20 a piece at Rock Auto. They clip right into the stock housings, but came with new housings; it didn’t look like the new housings were the same, but at least the lights are just like the originals. Ebay also had the same fog lights (they said they were for a BMW 2002) but for more money. I had 3M 35% window tint put on, which is a little light, but legal in Idaho. I've replaced a lot of parts that have worn out or leaking (the biggest items were the rack and pinion and new A/C). As far as modifications, I've replaced the suspension with Hyperco Gen II springs (brand new) that I bought from a forum member. I also had AGX's with Koni bump stops installed. I stiffened up the chassis with a Cusco FSTB, an Active Engineering RSTB (from Greg V), and a Progress rear sway bar. I also had a solid front engine mount (from Greg V) installed. For tires, I've got Falken Azenis 195/65R 14 for summer use and Michelin X Ice 3 175/75R 14 for the winter. I almost got some 15" Traklite Gear wheels in bronze, but have thought about selling it and didn't think it was worth the extra expense (I also like 6UL wheels). I also got a 2.5" VRS cat-back exhaust with a 4x22" resonator and a 5x8x18" oval muffler (both Magnaflow); it sounds great, and is surprisingly quieter than the stock exhaust with the crappy muffler (but is much deeper sounding). My son and I autocrossed it a couple times last year and had a blast. It performed great and got a lot of comments about how clean it is and how well it did. I'll try to post some photos on this forum. I just watched a youtube video on how to do it.
