sr20de b13 forged dd
Hi my name is chris. I currently own a 1991 nissan sentra se-r sr20de. This is my daily driver, it was forged by the previous owner for boost. I recently changed the clutch, and clutch cable. I was having shifting problems, and the cable was already to its max, prior to new install. My mechanic informed me that the old clutch still had life and it looked like the pin was missing that goes with it. He put the pin on the new one (wasnt to sure what he was talking about). After that the car was fine, shifting better etc. A couple weeks went by, and I already had to adjust the cable. Then two more weeks, and had to adjust it again. Its probably been around 2 months and now the cable is maxed out. So now im back to the same shifting problem. It doesn't want to let me in gear, I have to force it in. It seems the clutch is not disengaging. I also noticed that when the car is in neutral with the clutch realesed it makes sort of a chattering/clanking sound, but goes away when you step all the way down on the clutch. Any help or experience will be greatly appreciated thank you for your time

Welcome ,Chris...I dont know what "pin" your mechanic is talking aboout, but l the sounds you are hearing in neutral could be the springs in the clutch disc rattling. They have a tendency to rattle and loosen, eventually falling out.
If a spring pops out usually you can only get the car in gear with it NOT running.

If the clutch cable you got is NOT OEM Nissan...chances are thats alot of your problem with adjustment and whatnot. The aftermarket ones are total shit and should not even be sold. They start to stretch almost immediately and the end that attaches to the trans is poorly made and breaks really fast (leaving you on the side of the road.)
Yes,the OEM cable is expensive (2x the cost of aftermarket ,but will last 5x longer)
Its a good idea to have a spare cable in your trunk for peace of mind....I do and everyone else who has broke a cable while driving will too...LOL

This is not a big issue with stock clutches, but anything stronger than stock starts to effect the cables durability and overall wear.

There are also some cheap options to get more adjustment if needed by spacing the cable where it attaches to the trans bracket.
Heres something I have done with great success,so I shared it with this community...http://www.sr20-forum.com/general-maintenance/57181-free-clutch-cable-mod-more-adjustment.html

Get a proper OEM clutch cable from G Spec Performance (call the owner Greg Vogel to place the order if you can't find it on the web site).

Then look into the solutions for getting more adjustment out of the cable like eggman's free suggestion, or I've got a $3 method in my build thread. The best thing to do however would be to go straight to the Andreas Miko "Tranny Saver" bracket which includes a spacer for more adjustment. http://www.sr20-forum.com/classifieds-naturally-aspirated/11706-70-tranny-brackets-sale-70-original-no-imitation.html
