Hello everyone. I just purchased a 94 SE-R with auto trans. 1 owner car with all original sales receipts and upkeep. It seems very clean, has 150k miles. Basically I was looking for a reliable daily driver that looked good, easy on gas, with automatic transmission.

Why? Well I drive 80 miles a day in northern VA traffic after working 12-13hr shifts as a diesel/heavy duty truck mechanic. My feet and knees ache so much after rowing through my 6spd frontier I wanted something I could just set it and forget it.

I joined up as I have some knowledge of the sr20 motors but basically I want to keep this car as stock as possible and as clean as possible. Interior looks brand new except for some sagging cloth around the lumbar seats. Paint is chipping on the spoiler that original owner tried repairing but didn't match the color correctly. The car has zero rust but has some fading/oxidation on hood and roof.

I went through the engine and it's putting 170psi compression on all four, no leaks, everything completely unmolested. Ice cold a/c which is a big plus there's no sunroof though. The only mods if you call it that was a 35% tint all the way around and a aftermarket radio.

The car left me on side of road right after I bought it. Made a turn, have it some throttle and after the 2-3 shift it shut off and wouldn't run. It tried to run by just sputtered and dies after about 2 seconds. So I wet through everything, fuel psi test, spark test, compression test, checked grounds, all fuses and relays, unplugging maf sensor, tps sensor, checked make sure ecu was pulsing the injectors, etc. then I looked in the maf housing and looked like a brown rusty, rocky substance was in the little hole the maf gets it's reading from so I pull out the sensor and spray it off with maf cleaner. Pulled the k&n filter out and there was more of this rusty/rocky stuff stuck in the topside of the air filter?? So I put in a cheap paper filter and buttoned it up, put in the fuel pump fuse, cranked the engine and voila, purred like a kitten. So I'm wondering if this crap that got sucked into that maf hole is coming from junk built up in the EGR and dumping it back into the intake as I can't think how anything of that mature would get past the air filter.

Anyway it's running good but there a little hesitant idle only about 600 +-50 in drive. I'm thinking of going through the EGR and IAC to help smooth it out.

Well that's it for now, hope to have a great time here.

I think this may be the 3rd automatic SE-R we've seen recently on the forum and maybe 5th over all.
Crazy find there...

Good hunch on the EGR for the cause of debris and hesitation. A good place to look.

Thanks for the replys guys. My biggest concern is finding parts for that automatic trans should it ever fail on me. I've been looking around the web and cannot seem to find any transmissions laying around. I'd like to find a core and rebuild it so I'll have a fresh trans but I can't even find a rebuild kit that includes the clutches.

Only reason that sparks the idea is the trans seems to slip for a half second on the 3-4 shift once in a while. Sometimes it does it sometimes it doesn't it may not even be a issue as I haven't owned a automatic in about 7 years.

There's a power/neutral/comfort switch on the dash to control the trans and it seems to act a bit weird on comfort setting. In power mode it is a fun little ride but kinda pointless for daily driving.

Since the auto sers are so rare what trans can I look for that is a bolt in deal that will work with my ECU? Will the B14 sers plug n play?

I have been down this road with an auto trans in an nx2000(same chassis/drivetrain,in case you didnt know)
After swapping in the 3rd junkyard trans in 2 years time,I gave up and sold it.

Yes, any 91-99 SR20DE car with an auto trans should work in the car...I dont know whether the newer(B14) ones are LSD or if they have the sport/comfort capabilty, but it would at least be a newer trans(possibly last longer)
Also they made a B15 Sentra SE (00-01 ,I think) That had an sr20 so its possible that an auto trans from one of those would work....I cant confirm that, but I dont see why not,I know it bolts up anyway.

You are a smart man by thinking ahead on this, because those auto trannies are rare....its good to have a plan.

Also you should contact @GregV from gspec.com. He can no doubt tell you whats available as far as a rebuild kit. I buy almost all of my OEM Nissan parts from him as he is a community member, sentra owner,SR20 OG.....as well as a hell of a cool dude to deal with.
Prices will be as good or better than anywhere online too

Wow, thanks egg man for that information. The typical auto part stores show a listing for a trans with a 3yr warranty for $1600 with $750 core. Which is a good price IMO basically a trans for 900 bucks with a warranty.

I'm not looking to race the car and would like to keep it as factory as possible. I don't want to get into cutting wire harnesses and such. Would you happen to know if the transmission control module is built into the ECU or a seperate computer box? I grabbed a auto ser 1993 ecu out the local pick n pull but that car had over 350k miles on it so I'm leaving the trans sit but just in case I need a auto ecu I have a spare.

I like having expensive hard to find parts in a bin in the garage for safe keeping.
