sr20 DE swap for sr20ve VVL head + turbo / interchangeability of parts.
i have a 98 b14 sentra with the sr20 DE in it. im trying to do a head swap to get the VVL.trying for the head swap first because i dont want a turbo car w/o VVL (whats the point? to get beat by a K20 T civic because its got vtec? that'd blow.) anyways i know that itd be easier to buy a det but im operating on the principle that you can manipulate the internals and stroke or what kind of pistons or something to make some combo work, this is more of a can i do it kind of thing. the only thread i could find wasnt very detailed as to what parts and what the CP was. i know i have to tap the oil passage for the oil feed-> vvl solenoid. i am willing to notch the pistons to clear oil squirters(which also need to be added along with VE oil pump). thing is i dont know what pistons with turbo-able(?) C:P will/wont cause valve to piston contact.......................i guess the question here is can i do a Head swap to the 20valve VE head on my de block AND use the avenir manifold to turbo the car. yes i understand this is a hellish franken-moster but i feel like it'd be BA if its strong enough for boost.

Any stock SR20 is boost capable. i.e any stock pistons can be safely used
And yes you can use DET stuff on the VE(not the best thing in the world but it wont kill you either)

Just buy a VE and boost it. Why even go through the trouble of head swapping? unless you have a built bottom end.
And then why add the oil squirters to a de block.

Just get a stock VE and boost it. It'll be cheaper.

Because my de block has the better internals than the ve. And a ve is like 2500 and just the head swap looks more like 500-700 and then I've still got the turbo job either way.

So are the DE and DET the same block just different p istons and connecting rods and a turbo?

Where the hell did you read that?
And WTF VE's are you looking at? Mine was $625 out the door.

You need to do some more research. Swapping the ve head onto a de is a waste of time and money. I buy VE motors for 700$ all the time. I have a ve-t in my b13 right now making 400hp on bone stock guts. Ppl blow up ve motors on boost when they run t25/28 at 18psi. I'm running 14psi on mine and it drives like a dream and rips. Run a big turbo with the best parts you can afford and the motor will last. VEs are so cheap I picked up an extra one so I can push the stock motor to its limits and just it if it blows. Ppl are pushing 500+hp on stock motors so why drope 4k$ into a built motor if your happy with 500hp or less.
