1996 200sx Se r
Hello I have a Nissan 200sx se r obviously with a sr20de. But I'm interested in buying the newer sr20de roller rocker, but I heard you need a new ECU and wiring harness. Is that true or can I just use the stock SR ECU and wiring harness. And other than ECU and WH is there anything else I'd have to change like throttle body or Intake.

Thank you.

Hi, welcome to the forum. This place is an awesome resource for all things SR related.

Not to be rude, by why the RR DE swap? What's your goal? Something wrong with your current motor and you just have easy access to an RR one? Or are you going for performance?

If you're going for performance, this seems like a lot of work for little gain. Have you looked into the DET or VE swap?

RR DE is a good engine, nothing wrong with it.

You can use your old ECU and old harness. You need to take the old intake manifold off your current engine (if you have the current engine that originally came with your 200SX SE-R) to make the harness plugs work with your harness. The RR DE intake manifold will not function with all the newer sensors on the manifold.

Other than that, it is just bolt on and go.

I do have easy access to the RR and it has less miles than my original SR so that's why I'm swapping it. Plus I'm getting the RR for cheap.

I do have the original SR motor. And basically all I have to do is swap the SR IM onto the RR and then the RR will work??

Unless there's something wrong with your current motor, why not just throw in some S4 cams or something if you want some extra power. an engine swap is not exactly a piece of cake and there's sooo many variables that can change the outcome. Might as well go for a VE if your going to do all that work. Someone will buy the RR SR20 in the classifieds depending on the mileage and you can use that to get a VE. Just my .02. Motor swaps are a pain in the ass. Like Kyle said all the sensors and intake manifold needs to be swapped over.

I've done motor swaps before I know the work. And the only reason I'm swappin motors is because the RR I'm getting I buying it for cheap, and it has about less than half the miles of the original motor. And I need to pull the motor in my 200sx because I need to change the clutch, but I haven't looked into a VE swap.

+1 for a VVL swap

Exactly why you should remove the original engine lowport intake manifold, install on the RR engine, and drive off into the sunset. Everything will work and cost you zero money, just time/effort.

If you install a VE, you either need to swap some components over from the DE to the VE or get another ECU (hopefully a tune-able one which adds to cost)
