Is my gearbox the same?
Hi all.

My B13 Sunny GTS has just (2000 miles ago) developed what I think is "5th Gear Pop Out". Having read all the threads about why this happens and how to fix it I was wondering whether or not the gearbox attached to my SR18DE would have the same fifth gear assembly as your USDM models?

It has prothane engine mounts (vibration city). When driving along in gears 1-4 the stick barely moves but in 5th it will flop around a lot and eventually pop out.

Being a small country parts are scarce and 9 time out of 10 cheaper to import from USA. Would the Courtesy Nissan 5th Gear Kit apply to my box?

Thanks

Should mention this is a JDM imported car. So I guess this would apply to anyone that has used an imported gearbox?

32310-53A00 32310-53A11 vs. 32310-82M00 32310-82M11
Without the Service Data Sheet (Can be found in a JDM FSM) for your HB13 I can not say with 100% certainty that it will NOT work. Most likely thou it will not work.

5th Gear - Input Shaft:
USDM B13 SR20DE 32310-53A00 -> 32310-53A11
JDM B13 SR18DE 32310-82M00 -> 32310-82M11

32310-82M00 can also be found in:

32310-82M11 can also be found in:

Good luck - let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks for doing that. Damn that leaves me in a bit of a situation. I haven't checked with nissan new Zealand yet but I can only imagine what the cost would be.

What do you think the difference would likely be? If I had both the coupling, gear and synchro it could fit on?

I did some more research today for you.

The bad news is 32310-82M00, 32310-82M01, & 32310-82M11 are all discontinued here in the states.

The good news is that both the Input Shaft and Main Shaft are the same between the USDM SR20 and JDM SR18 transmission. So, in theory, you could replace both gear stacks with used USDM SR20 gear stacks or replace both of the 5th gears and keep your current remaining gear stacks. By replacing both 5th gears you would change the ratio and gain some top speed and fuel mileage.

Let me know what direction that you wish to go so that I can continue researching with you.

PS: @Administrator - Sure would be nice if someday we had a section for Transmissions...

That's some good news. If the shafts have the same spline count and diameter (sounds like they do). Changing to usdm gears would be win win, fixing the pop out and lowering highway rpm.

If it's just a matter of different ratios the sundry items like seals should more or less also be applicable.
