Noob with a sr20det in a super7
I just put my hand on a Super 7 kit car with a sr20det redtop. The motor has stock power in a ~1200lbs package, that should be fun to drive, once I fix the wiring...

@Alf, I got your PM. So you're having wiring issues? Let us know what the problem is and we'll see if we can help. We can also move this thread to the right section if it comes to that.

When I purchase my car earlier this year, I got a bit of a surprise. The wiring was in a condition worst then originally expected. So, I took everything out of the car, it was easier then chasing gremlin. The car has no wiring left. I started back from scratch in a very clean sheet. When it comes to headlight, tail light, horn, etc, that is all under control. Before I plug that part of the wiring, I'd like to wire the engine to start, most basic start. I have the OE uncut harness, the car use to run with it. The ex-owner fool around with some stuff and the engine never restarted. The ECU is good and it was tested. So from the engine to the ECU, that's 100% covered. I'm looking at wiring and circuit diagram, I found that I need to plug a relay for the ECCS, fuel pump relay and ignition relay. Outside of those 3 relay (and the obvious starter motor), do I need to plug anything else to get the engine to start? Alternator is not in the list yet but could be added.

So you're asking what needs to be connected to the ECU harness, OTHER THAN the ECU and all the engine sensors/actuators?

Don't forget the ECU grounds. I'm sure you haven't. They are on the intake manifold.

As for connections on the ECU-side of the engine harness, you will also want to have the inhibitor relay powered if this is an automatic ECU. That is the only thing I can see in the diagram that you haven't mentioned. Although preferably you'd have the tachometer connected to the ECU harness as well. I don't think that is required for the engine to run though.

This assumes you have all the sensors and actuators connected. Maybe you can tell us how it is behaving? Does the starter crank the engine? Does the engine fire? Does it catch and idle?
If you're only getting the engine to crank, do the spark plugs fire when the are taken out of their cylinders and checked visually while cranking (or spinning the CAS manually)?
Do the injectors fire as well?

The engine was firing originally, but after I found so many bad/unsafe wiring on various thing (telephone wire beside the exhaust manifold, butt join every other feet, butt join falling apart). I decided that it was safer to restart from scratch. Before I go to far, I just want to get the engine started. This is a 5 speed manual transmission.

After the engine is started, I'll wire my digidash for the tach and speedo, I'll finalise my new electrical harness (lights, etc...)

So, does the thing crank? Are you getting spark? Fuel?

Nothing at this point since all wiring is out and I restarted from scratch. I was hoping to working on it tonight but that may have to wait for few days.

The FSM wiring diagram is going to be invaluable for this. Let us know when you get to your next road block.
