So the noise is coming from like behind the steering...does the clanking sounds louder when you accelerate? Does it sounds while in idel(on but not moving)? Does it sound when you turn? Or does it sounds when the car is moving?

If is only while you turn it sounds to me like it can be your axle, bushings, or your sway bar link.

Well, the any other thing I can think is a little funny...lol...but may be it is what you are hearing is the little weight that is inside the steering wheel where the air bag is. Is probably broken and thats the clanking noise you hear when you turn your steering wheel. That weight I believe is to balance out the steering wheel from vibration. Only way to find out is by opening the side of the steering wheel and look inside with a flashlight and see if you see the weight.
