Hello and help... Please
Hi all from sunny, though freezing, Poole in Dorset, UK.
I've owned and raced a few Almera 2.0 GTI's on tarmac and grass and decided at the end of last auto-grass season, to build myself a class 9 autograss special. All has gone well with the build and the 2.0 GTI SR20de motor sits quite nicely in the rear of the chassis, but now we come to the tragedy, I absolutely suck and electrics and as a consequence I now have the back end of the motor covered in wires and not a spark in sight. The first race of the season is on April 7th, this coming Sunday and I can't get the f$%@~#in thing to run. Is there anyone out there in SR20 land and lives close enough to Poole to come and make it work pleeeeaaaassse as I'm getting desperate or provide me with an idiots guide as to how to get it wired up so that it works. Sorry to just join and throw this one out, but I speak the truth, I need help and I'm even going to go so far as offer a drive in the special, in the mechanics race, to whoever is prepared to help me get it running, for the cost of traveling money, beer, butties and the Kudos of knowing that you've helped get this years championship winning car on the track. Thanks and hoping. Tom

What ECU and wiring harness are you dealing with? The same one that came with the car/engine?

Have you plugged everything in and it won't provide a spark? Or is it more complicated than that?

While there are tons of wires, the most important are those for the Cam Angle Sensor, the MAF, the coils, and the injectors. And then the fuel pump... It should run with those hooked up.

Hi Ben and thanks for your reply. I've chopped into the engine wiring harness to try and connect it all directly to the ecu, which is an F3 with NATS2. I don't know whether what I've done is right, but
I've followed advice from a chap who knows how to get around having to use the key to disarm the NATS, so I'm fairly sure that's not an issue, but I can't get a spark. I really need an idiots guide on exactly
which wire to connect and what to connect them to. I can't understand the wiring diagram that comes in the manual and I can't find the exact pinouts for my ecu. I've used a couple of other ecu pinouts and tried to cross
reference them with the wire colors that actually come out the back of my ecu. The other thing is I don't know whether the ecu is looking for feedback from different sensors that will let it work, and
now I'm totally confused and really would like for someone to just come and fix it
So if you have an idiots guide on how to get the engine running, I'd appreciate it if you can send it to me, or even better, if you feel like a vacation in the UK, I can put you up
Cheers mate
Tom

does the motor turn over? is the fuel pump priming? nats cuts fuel and spark.

Hi and thanks for the reply, but now I'm really confused. The other chap who told me how to wire up the NATS part of the loom, told me that it just cuts the fuel. Now I don't know if he means it just stops the pump from working, or whether it affects the injectors as well, but I'm not using the pump in any case, because I use a small tank with its own pump that just goes live at the flick of a switch in the cockpit. Likewise with the starter, that's just connected to a push button in the cockpit. My idea is to run the bare minimum of wires to get the engine running on song. The fewer bits of wiring I have, the fewer bits there are to go wrong. I don't need speedo, airbag, seat tensioner, oil light, battery light, etc, etc, etc. I couldn't find the right pinouts for my ecu but I found several others which are all similar, so I've tried to cross reference the wiring with the colours that match the ones in the pinout diagrams I have. I hope this gives more insight into what I'm doing, or I should say doing wrong:nightmare:

nope nats kills the whole ignition system along with the fuel pump relay. I would remove the nats box from harness.

Bugger! Its not just the box in the harness though, there is a part of the mobo in the ecu dedicated to NATS as well. Oh well I guess its back to the drawing board then.

I would use a obd1 harness and ecu to make things simple.

Thanks, I just got a lead on someone locally that used to race SX200's, and they used a local sparky to sort out the wiring. I'm going to try and track them down as apparently they had a lot of Nissan harnesses and ECUs and such.
I will let you know how I get on in the near future. By that I do mean the near future, because I just missed a boat load of points at the first meeting of the season today, and the next race is 2 weeks time, and by hook or friggin crook the car will be running for it.
