Why so?

ITBs are annoying to tune. I dislike Alpha-N tuning, and that is the only way to do it right. They are annoying to try to filter properly. Those are the main gripes.

ITBs without a plenum offer no real ultimate power advantage over a properly designed manifold setup with a single throttle body which makes their hassle not worth it IMO.

You get easier runner length adjustability with ITBs and no plenum which is nice for R&D, I admit. And the ease with which you can install fuel injectors at the horn entrance is nice. And packaging is super simple. But again, the ultimate gains over a custom manifold and what it takes to realize them from a design and monetary standpoint don't make it worth it IMO.

I think alpha tuning is just to keep it with stock ecu. I dont really see thr need in spending 1500k on a ems where I can use what I have & put that money towards other like a header

I have a theory for how to tune ITBs and no plenum with speed-density but as far as I know it's never been attempted correctly. There is no proven way to do ITBs (and no plenum) without Alpha-N and have an even halfway drivable tune IMO. You can tune it well enough for some drag passes maybe, but that is not up to my standards.

Obviously ITBs and a plenum can use a MAF sensor and use mass-air tuning. That is a different discussion I think? I hate MAFs, so I hate that solution as well.

@BenFenner the itb thing for our cars really comes down to packaging in our space-limited fwd cars. I have the NA bjs manifold on my b13 which barely fits and still actually may not be big enough... that said in the coming year I will be pushing the limits of what that manifold can do and compare that to the itb builds coming out of our camp.

Edit, this will be done with aem ems and MAP... no more MAFs for me soon!

I know we have space constraints on these cars, but that's nothing curved intake runners can't solve. One of these days someone is going to curve a VE intake down low with a 7° runner taper, velocity stacks, tuned runner length, and a center entrance and show us the way to ITB-like power from a manifold that packages well.
