HowTo - P10/P11 SR20VE Coil On Plug w/ 20V Crank Angle Sensor
I posted this on G20.net, but I figure others can use this information on an SR20DE motor level. I documented and put this together because I couldn't find a real HowTo setup a Coil on Plug system for the G20 (SR20DE/VE essentially). There is a lot of information (and I do mean A LOT) on SR20forum and the dash, but nothing wrapped up easily into one thread. So here goes, I'm assuming that if you are performing this swap, you know how to do basic wiring and have a system to utilize the CAS and COP systems. I'm also assuming you have a 20V valve cover to match, but I've placed the valve cover and gasket part numbers below as well.

Big thanks to Charles (Snickers), Ben Fenner (BenFenner), Justin (JustinP10) and Tony Szirka (my tuner and close friend at UMSTuning here in Phoenix, AZ) for helping to get this all pooled together.

Chassis: P10/P11
Engine: SR20VE

Wiring Instructions

  • Cut 8 pin DE harness connector off, remove distributor
  • Connect CAS
  • Use the existing harness wiring to connect the new 20V CAS (see photo and legend for sequence):
    • Use sourced connector (see part numbers for recommended connector)
      • 1 | Crank Angle Sensor 180* (REF) Signal
      • 2 | Crank Angle Sensor 1* (POS) Signal
      • 3 | Power
      • 4 | Ground
  • Cut ignition wire (5) from secondary distributor harness, this will wire/run into power relay
  • Install and wire a relay as follows:
    • 5 | Ignition power (see above image)
    • 6 | 12 volt constant power (to battery)
    • 7 | 12 volt power to coil packs
    • 8 | Ground to chassis
  • Install coil packs into VC
    • Use sourced coil pack connectors
    • Wire coil pack(s) as follows:
      • IB | Coil Signal
      • G | Ground
      • + | 12 volt power (from relay)
  • Wire all coil pack 12 volt constant power together, run to relay wire 7 (see above)
  • Run remaining coil signal (IB) wires to ECU or trigger device

have anybody try to put s15 coil pack on normal sr20ve valve cover?

I test fitted but the packs were longer/taller so it didn't seal around the VC spark cylinder holes.

ooo........i saw a post about that on d forum that the sr20vet which should be the same as the s15 coil is like 3mm shorter than thespark plug wires

Good stuff Jon, hope this is working well with your AEM EMS and the hiccups have gone away. Will give you a buzz this week to talk shop and stuff, may do this on the 94.

It cleared all my hiccups up, 0 timing errors (AEMTuner v2.98 has an awesome S15 coil pack wizard to auto set dwell) and my idle is now butter smooth.

Cool! Give me a shout whenever as always .

just a small heads up. Greg can get u the S15 coil pack sub harness to make it super easy to install so u don't have to Pin the connectors your self for the coils. you can also use s14 sub harness you just need to swap 2 wires in the connectors for the coils.

Sweet, didn't know that! Would make it cleaner if your wanting it to look exactly like OEM, I actually just took my time and sourced individual items to keep costs low as well as know where to buy the items if say a clip broke or etc .

I spent overall $505 for the CAS, Coil Packs, Connectors (4x pack connectors, 1 CAS connector) and relay. If you count the VC, I spent about $650 after everything is/was all said and done.

Re: HowTo - P10/P11 SR20VE Coil On Plug w/ 20V Crank Angle Sensor
im doing this with a s13 det ecu and nemu

I have a complete 20v harness I wss going to use the cas and coil wiring all the way to the ecu.

is the relay nessesary?

I would recommend it, in my mind having clean consistent power is always preferred vs relying on the ECU to send the exact and proper amount of voltage every time through the maze of wiring in the harness. This way you aren't relying on the alternator, accessories being on and off, drag of the car, etc.
