Thing is, is it really worth the $100+ price tag for something as simple as setting into timing mode .

I got mine off ebay for like $30 shipped or something. Cable works great. Nissan Conzult is free and does timing mode.

What connection is that? A joy stick or what?

All the other ones I seen are USB.

lol what? DB9 Serial

That's why I suggested you get a USB to Serial cable unless your laptop is like 6 years old and has a serial port on it

So its the same procedure to check the timing on the JWT ecu's?

Yes, but it depends on what program is loaded onto the ECU.

The first program I had, I could get into timing mode normally because JWT only raises the idle to stay around 850 and normal base timing.

The program I have now has the idle at 25* advanced so it sits around 1080-1110.

I cannot get into timing mode, manually, anymore with my current program.

That is why I bought a consult cable and found freeware to use with it so I could get into timing mode. It works way better than the rain dance manual mode ever did. One click and it locks, automatically, instantly, into timing mode. I downloaded Nissan Datascan v1.4 for free to accomplish this.
