Thread: HowTo: Build an Oil Cooler

For those of you that slap a turbo on your non DET motor, track your car (especially the VE), or just want to add some extra reliability, an Oil Cooler is a must. I haven't seen a direct fit kit for our cars, so using this thread ( How-to: Build Your Own Oil Cooler: 240sx Articles: Nissan Forums / Infiniti Forums - NICOclub ) I went about making one that fits the VE. Most of the parts are the same, with the filter bypass being the main difference. You will need a different thread for your filter adapter for the non RR/DE motors. I'll update with the thread pitch when I find it.

You'll notice I included a 0-150psi VDO oil pressure gauge, and a 150-300ºF VDO oil temp gauge. These aren't necessary, but I would HIGHLY recommend them, especially if you plan on tracking the car.

You will also need a Nissport oil pressure sender adapter to install the sending unit for the gauge.

I think this would work better with the Custom Steel oil filter relocation block... A bit prettier and safer than the screw on line fitting.

I have a feeling you can build that a little cheeper I don't know. This might be good for some extra hp huh.

The CS block would be nice but it would have driven the total cost up to over $700. The screw-on pieces are perfectly fine as long as you don't leave them loose or install them improperly.


You could do this for cheaper, but not by much- maybe $100 less. Also, if you left out the gauges that would save a few $$$, but they're pretty important. The hose can be had for much cheaper, but I don't like the look of the braided SS lines, and they're a bitch to cut/install ends on.

I don't know about a HP gain, the main reason I did this was to keep my oil temps down on the track
