WI peeps...
LIsten... I have an problem. Some of you know that I will be up that way very soon. And I'm not getting anywhere soon with this issue.

I had a VE motor swapped in not to long ago and for some reason I have had this grinding noise since the swap. Now when the car moves in gear or out of gear.. you can hear it. Faster the car goes the faster the noise... and same when slowing down. When in neutral you can't miss it. Now I have had both wheel bearings replaced and the noise is still there. I also though it was the splash guards which were taken out. I think it might be an axle or the transmission. Which I hope to god it's not the transmission.

Now my main problem is my back... right now I need surgery on my bad and really can't gear and tinker like I wish I could. But honestly.... I could really use a hand or another opinion on what it is before something really goes bad. I'm tired of the mechanic not knowing and it keeps costing me an arm and leg for something that it's not.

I will be heading up that way on the 26th. So that following week or weekend if someone could please give me a hand I would greatly appreciate it. Plus... give you a reason to meet up.

I would really appreciate any help that you guys could offer.

Obviously I can't help physically from here, but could you try coasting down a hill and then turn the engine off (leave the key in to prevent steering wheel from locking and be ready to lose your power steering) and see if the noise changes any at all? While coasting, have the car in neutral and have the the clutch pedal pushed all the way in. See if any of that gets rid of the noise or changes it significantly. Then let the clutch out completely while still in neutral (and coasting) and see if the noise changes any.

Edit: Read your other posts. Assuming the bearings were done properly then it can really only be brakes or the differential. Unless there's a stick caught somewhere.

Well there are not many hill's in Fl to try this right now...I will have to wait til I get up to WI.

The thing about the wheel bearing is that it would kinda loose the noise as you turned... it doesn't. Plus there is no wobble sounds and with the car in the air there is no play.

You can get the car up to speed and coast for a while if flat land is the only thing available.
I'm sorry you're having all these problems. Hopefully something will work out.

Wayne... just for shits and giggles, what clutch did he put in and did he replace the t.o. bearing?

I see what your saying. It still makes the noise when I coast in neutral. At well as when in gear.

Same OEM clutch that was in there as well as TOB. Do you think that might be the issue? Even I asked him if I should replace that and he said no.

It could be the TOB but from my experience a bad TOB doenst really make noise all the time only when the clutch is released like when you sitting ideling in neutral. I suppose if its extremelly bad it would make noise all the time, but it could also be the front main bearing in the trans.

It might be the TOB... talked to him last night about it... he said exactly what you said. But we are going to get to the bottom of it here this weekend. I already had him order the bearing and hub from the dealer... for a damn good discount. $130 for both his cost. So both front end's will be good for a long while I hope.

I would appreciate it... I will have the means to have it in the air if your willing to come to Kenosha.. I really don't know how far that is. I'm just going to try not to drive it while it's doing this... That being the case if the issue isn't resolved this weekend with the new bearing. I just hope that's what it is.

wayne try this.

put the car ,front on jackstands...

car in neutal, spin the wheels by hand...is ths noise there?

now put the car in say 3rd gear and let it idle...is the noise there?

i had a problem with my trans making a noise, driving, rolling,in neutral whetever...i replaced the trans and no more problems.... the niose/gringing could be felt in the shifte and gas pedal....at any speed and any gear....

drain the trans fuild and look for shavings...
