does the wood at the bottom help the box handle more weight?
I fallowed that thread and bam! Transmission shipped! i actually think it's better to do it this way over the container and going to start doing it this way from now on.
Bolt it to a mini pallet and ship it UPS ground. We ship short blocks through work all the time UPS ground and it's about $50 strapped to a mini pallet.

A mini pallet works great. That box with wood bottom would work fine but they have always told me it has to withstand a 3' drop so the one side won't cover you.
I don't think the newspaper and foam cheetos will really absorb that drop either. Always wrap in towels and stuff the box with more cardboard. Preferably small boxes of thick cardboard about the size of a cigar box. Stuff the small boxes with the peanuts or newspaper or whatever.
I think I shipped you a block once Keo. It was full of stuff. I like quart and half gallon milk and oj cartons both plastic and cardboard. When you tape them shut they tend to be tight enough that the air can absorb a lot.

If you guys ever need a box, ask the local Chick-fil-A for one of their Waffle Fry boxes. Same exact thing as you get from Uhaul but you can get them for free. Just has a bunch of writing on the sides. I used them to move a few months back. Awesome boxes.
