The FSM only specifies a shim on the driver/left side for preload adjustment. There is no Nissan part number available for the passenger/right side.

Part #1 is the location of the shim(s).
If you had a differential that was radically different in length from an OEM or MFactory, you might need to find your own shim(s) for the opposite side to get the final drive gear to have a good mesh pattern with the gear shaft. I doubt that's a problem with the current offerings for our cars, though. I believe the main goal of the shim(s) in FWD cars like ours is to keep the tapered differential bearings centered and rolling smoothly in their races.
I know that in the off-road and RWD community, they will use prussian blue or gear paint to check their gear engagement pattern when replacing differentials. They also have to worry about backlash, which we shouldn't.
