Variable intermittent wipers
At a recent trip to a salvage yard, I was looking inside a P11 for parts and I saw the wiper arm looked like a better match for the headlight switch. Instead of squarish, it was round and had the variable wiper. I removed it and the harness, hoping it would be a simple retro fit.

The screw holes are in the same place as the B14, but the new switch is a little thicker in some areas. This is due to the switch and wiper amplifer being together versus apart like found in the B13 and B14. I marked the area that needed to be removed from the combo switch mount and cut it out. I make things easier and less messy, I removed my steering wheel so the mount could be removed. Be careful when removing the airbag and you will need a security T55 bit.



I didn't want to cut the old harness out, so I removed some of the tape covering the wires and tapped into each one.
The wire colors were the same between the P11 and B14, but the B14 is missing 1 and another one will be used a little different.
The P11 has a green wire that carries 12v from the fuse box to the wiper motor, on the B14 this is done by the wiper amp, so there
is no power wire at the steering wheel. I tapped into that same wire behind the fuse box so it will be using the same circuit.
There is also not a wire at the switch that goes to the wiper motor, so I used an unused wire at the switch and a jumper wire at
the wiper amp to complete this circuit. Let me explain: there is a brown wire that tells the wiper amp that the switch is in intermittent mode,
and a blue/yellow wire that sends the 12v in 7sec intervals. Since the wiper amp is in the switch in the P11, this happens inside the switch
and we just need that to get to the wiper motor. The wire for the wiper motor is all the way on the passenger side of the car, next to the
glovebox. Connect the green/red, green/black, black, and pink wires from the P11 harness to the B14 harness. Find the green power
wire behind the fusebox, then use the brown wire on the B14 harness to the orange wire on the P11.

The wiper amplifier is on the passenger side next to the glovebox. Remove the glovebox and look to the right of the blower motor.
It's tucked up in there. You don't need to remove it, just unplug the connector. I made a jumper wire using spade connectors and
connected the brown wire to the orange wire. This will now connect the orange wire from the switch to the orange wire at the wiper
amp, via the unused brown wire. Tape up the harness and tuck it back under the dash.





Once everything is back together, you will have factory variable intermittent wipers that in my opinion, looks better than what came on
the car.





If you can't find a P11 switch, I've found the B15 is the same, but the wire colors are different. If you use a B15 switch,
the green/red, black, and green wires are the same. The green/white goes to green/black, white/green goes to pink, and white/blue
goes to orange. This should also work in a B13. The wiring colors are the same and the switch should be also. The other way of doing this was to find the wiper switch from a 240SX or a truck and swap that and the wiper amp, but the chances of finding one of those in good shape are slim, plus I think this one looks better.

The B13 has the amplifier built into the wiper switch, not separate. Been there, done that. And this switch appears completely different in style than the B13. It may be possible that the guts from the P11 switch be transferred into the B13 switch, but based on pics courtesy of Rock Auto I doubt it. The best option for the B13, IMHO, is to source a PHDM variable wiper switch. It's plug and play, no modification required....

So this won't work for B13? ...or is Todd just butthurt he didn't figure it out?

Using OEM variable intermittent stalk only? ...no radio shack knobby knobs...

The fact that the P11 switch has the amplifier built into it is a plus. Could the board be placed into the B13 switch body? Meh, doubtful. The stalk may may be compatible "electronically", BUT fitting it into the B13 switch body presents at least two other challenges. 1 - activation of the washer fluid switch, 2- inside end if the stalk shape and compatibility with the detents in the B13 switch body.
