HOW TO: Paint and rust proof calipers and rotors. <PICS>
Well after finding out that I had a bad caliper on the drivers side front and also hearing and reading over and over about the AD22VF "BIG BRAKE" upgrade. I decided to just upgrade. And at the right price. I was amazed. And one want the "free" hook up.. PM me.

So I also talked to Serban and he also recommended to seal up the rotors from rusting. Which in any case this will happen to the rotors.

TOOLS:

AD22VF Rotors
AD22VF Calipers
Exacto Knife
Masking Tape
Paint EXAMPLE: Here I used all Dupli-Color

High temp primer ( base for calipers )
Flat black
Gunmetal ( to match the SE-L rims )
Clear for sealant

Now I'm sure you can use el-cheap-o flat black for the rotors. But I got a deal on the flat Dupli-Color.





Step 1.)

Here I ripped the tape in about 5" pieces and then attached them at an angle to cover more space on the rotor making sure to get's as close to the inside of the rotor and to the outside tip makeing sure you can't see any shine.



Step 2.)

Push down all the tape with your fingers and get the tape flat around all the edges making sure to get out any air bubbles. After that take your knife and or blade and cut the handing tape off around the outside edge off.



Step 3.)

Now you also want to take some of the tape off the edge where the pad really never hits. I took off about 1/4" on the inside and outside off.



Step 4.)

Set up your rotors up so you can easly paint them. I make this setup with some wood, nails and plastic cover.



Step 5.)

1st you want to clean these with some alcohol without touching.That way you know you have good paint contact. Let dry......Now start to spray. Making sure to get in the slots of the side of the rotor. I did three even coats of the flat black to get some nice even coverage. About 10-16 mins between coats.



Step 6.)

After paint is completly dry, remove the tape and there ya go!



Now the calipers.

Step 1.)

Take them and tape them up... Usually places... any open hose lines, pistons and nut heads.



Step 2.)

Clean and paint. Here I used about 2 coats primer, 3 coats Gunmetal paint and 3 coats of clear.


Done Deal!!!





I should have these on in the next few days. I will make sure to update.

********************UPDATE********************

Well finished the project... had an issue that i didn't know about with the ducst sheld needing to be cut back. And a little rubbing because stupid me forgot to seat the bracket that the pads sit in. Those little flanges you have to bend over.. well any hoot. Do to not being able to post enough pics.. here is a link to the final outcome. SS brake lines will be on soon also.

The clear is not high temp? Cool!

doesn't have to be... clear doesn't get that hot do to the 3-4 coats of high temp.

Can you be a bit more specific about what to tape up on the caliper? I just got my calipers and want to paint them red to contrast my freshly painted gunmetal wheels.

If they are apart... and contact parts. Its not that hard to figure out really. Just make sure that you don't get ANY paint in there or it could screw up any seals.

I used just basic masking tape if that helps any also.
