excellent writeup, half the battle is finding speakers with the right depth that still have enough punch...coming from my G Coupe with six 6x9's, plus pillar mounted tweeters with 350W, just cannot deal with small sound and really do not want to put in speaker enclosures elsewhere - should be able to get good enough sound out of 2x 6.5" and some 5x7's or 6x9's in the rear deck.

I think it sounds pretty good to be honest, I also have a G35 ( sedan so no 6x9's ) but im pretty happy with the CDT's if I sealed my whole door up it would of sounded even better. Also maybe like those pods like this -

I don't think there's enough room for these though.

I also grinded down some of the inside of the door panel smooth just in case the part that is behind the panel hits hard enough to make contact.

On my front x-overs I have it set to 100hz with a 24db slope ( alpine head unit ) they hit pretty nice with no distortion.

Dang, I just screwed in 4 screws to the door with my 6.5" speakers.

You did it 100% correctly, that is for sure.

I made the mistake of buying Infinty Kappa's for my first B13 and I still wait for the day to just chuck those whiny bitches. They really lack range, distort out well below their wattage rating, and that's all also with a good HU. They just fail to broadcast enough sound. Kappa's are one of those speakers living off the name from the 1970's forward. I can't recommend them for anything.

The G sedan and Coupe "base" (if you ever see one) systems are really poor, they use a very basic under-powered HU. The so-called "premium" package has a much better BOSE system. I'm no fan of BOSE in general, but the 6MT '03-04 Coupe, that is a decent system. Someone put the engineering time in on that one, at least for an OEM stereo. Def has room for improvement but considering most BOSE pre-installed are terrible, I like it.

Don't waste your time with those baffles. I just removed mine and it made the sound much richer and bassier. I thought they were supposed to help, but in reality they made the sound very flat.

Your not supposed to run Kappa's without an amp. Good HU's only put out 18 rms. Not enough to power them basically. I had some Infinity references and they weren't bad nice and clear, but I like the Polk's more because I want more bass. I just finished installed Polk DB651's front and back in my P11 and am amazed at how bassy they are. Sound is not as crisp, but I will let them break in before I judge crispness.

I saw Blair using them and went to Crutchfield and talked to the sales person and he did what he does best, told me why they would work in theory and sold me on them. I installed them on my stock Bose speakers with a Sony Head Unit. At first I didn't really notice a real improvement, never thought to check the bass though.

Then one day I drove my wife's car, same year P11 with factory Bose speakers and an older Sony Heat Unit. Her system sounded better! Started researching the foam baffles and people said unless your wanting to protect speakers from water they are useless and will actually make things worse. Kind of like having a Sub with a tiny box.

Today removed one of the baffles in the rear, and did a side by side sound listening test. Sound was much flatter and had much less bass . Off they went and on went Polk DB651's, which sound even better then the Bose speakers!

Great write up 6" is the way to go to project the sound up front . I worked for mb quart personaly for 5 years until they got bought by rokford fosegate and moved to AZ. They make awsome sounding mids and highs . I am running the "Q" series 6" in the front doors and did the same mod as i use to have theor 5 1/4 on a 5x6 adaptor plates that mb quart use to make .
