HOW TO: Never leave your headlights on again
For anyone here that's woken up to a dead battery, I came up with my own solution for killing the headlights when you leave your car. It's not exactly DRLs, but you can use it like DRLs if you want it to.

Basically, you just have to cut and tap 3 wires inside the steering column, wire it up to the relay, then wire the relay to an ignition source (like the cigerette lighter). The relay is pretty big and supports 3 seperate contacts at the same time (known as a 3PDT relay). You can find the relay on mouser.com using the part #s below.

BTW, there is PLENTY of room on the back right corner of the compartment behind the gauge cluster. The best location for the ignition source is the Cigerette lighter.

Enjoy:

Can you elaborate on what this is and what it does? I'm a little confused still about what happens with this process.

Great post Justin!

I think it might make the lights go off when the key is out or not in On position.

It cuts power to the headlights as soon as you turn the car off. It's kinda like DRLs except you have the option to turn them off.

I'd say at least 15A. I went by the part on Mouser.com It's a single relay with 3 sets of contacts.

you can grab 3 automotive relays as well. Most are rated at 30-40A. That's just a MAX rating.
