How To: '93 NX Fog Light Switch Mod
I've noticed a lot of confusion among people on how to do this fog light mod, especially with the '93 NX2K. I set up my fogs to come on with my parking lights. I still have control of the switch inside, but if the parking lights are on, the fog lights are on. Let's begin...
***It is now known that not all '93 NX2000's are wired the same way. If this thread does not help you, check out this one by DC Scotty. So please, please, test your wiring and look closely at your vehicle's wiring before applying either of these mods.
We will be working in the engine bay, in the relay box to the left of the battery.
If you want to you can remove the cover to see what you'll be working under. We will be working on the relay closest to the radiator (under the cover labeled as FR Fog Lamp (duh).
Next, locate and unscrew the two screws holding in the entire box. Flip it over, and remove the bottom cover by pulling the snap clips off.
Now, making sure you're still looking at the right relay, find the red w/yellow wire, and either pull the pin out and put a new wire in there, or cut it a few inches away from the relay block (long enough for you to strip and crimp afterwards). I used the cut and crimp method. After you cut it and add a wire crimp, get another wire (e.i. speaker wire, or something) and put it on the other side. Tape it up when that is finished.
Now find the wire harness running to the driver side parking lamp. When you find it, cut and pull back the plastic sleeve it is in. Take the positive wire (red w/blue) and cut it. Strip both ends and crimp one side back on with just the original wire, and on the other side, take the wire you installed from the Fog Lamp relay, and double it with the other half to the parking light positive wire and crimp them down.
Tape that together when finished.
Make sure everything works the way mine looks, make sure everything is taped properly, and screw the relay box back in. You're done!
Note 1: Another way this can be accomplished is to run the jumper wire from the fog lamp relay to one of the wires on the fuel pump relay. The fog lights will turn off/on with the ACC power, and switch will still be active. I'm not sure which wire it is, but I'm pretty sure it is one of the brown ones. The way I figured, if I wanted my fog lights on, there is probably a need for it (poor daylight or bad weather) and I may as well have at least my driving lights on, so I didn't go with this approach.
Note 2: I am in no way responsibly for any mishaps that may occur while attempting this.
