ECU help... what do I have going on here (Pics included)
So there it he ecu harness... obviously looks like it's adapted, is this the OBD2 to OBD1 conversion I've read about?

Here is my current ECU, was told it was tuned, not sure how or if I can tell by who, car runs VERY strong so I can't help but believe it has been tuned.

Old ecu, came with car when purchased, no clue about it.

Car is a 96 200sx SR20DE+T (Do not believe it is the SR20DET)

The white plug attached spliced with a blue plug denotes a stepdown harness. No way to tell who tunned the ecu but if you unscrew the top of the ecu and find an extra eprom board and chips then yes,it is a tunned ecu.

I figured it was a stepdown adapter too... but step down typically implies what, OBD 2 to 1?

Or is there a "step down" that goes from say an older OBD2 ecu to a newer OBD2, or vice versa I guess is a more clear question.

It is a stepdown harness in the sense that someone took a obd1 wire loom and spliced it into a obd2 wire harness. Then they just plugged up a obd1 ecu. The eaisiest way to differentiat obd1 from 2 is that obd1 is blue( hence the saying blue plug ecu) and the obd2 plug is white.

These help shed any light on my ECU? Is that all original stuff?

What I am trying to find out is what I have, the car came with 2 ECU's, pics above, (Red writing & Black writing), was told the "tuned" ecu is in the car, the other he knew nothing about. (meaning the guy I got it from was the the owner who installed the ECU. So I know nothing about the tune, car runs really well, I am sure I wouldn't change anything just yet, but been thinking about bigger maf, hence the need to know whats up.

That's a a basic chipped daughter board. In order to retune, the chips have to be removed and placed in a reader/programmer and then a bin is uploaded to the chip. That looks to be a calum or pmls knock off. the schematics have been available for years and they are cheap to make.

I'd advice against making changes to the MAF/Injector/Turbo setup at all, before getting your hands on some way to tune. Burning roms is so late 90's, why not get your hands on a realtime tunable ECU, like Nistune or Nismotronic? Damn, I should be paid for advertising Nismotronic in so many posts , but I can't help it, it's such a great tool.

It's hard for me to grasp that some people still play around with burning chips, and even tuning without a wideband :O. Don't change anything until you can improve it on the tuning side

I really didn't plan to, that's why I am asking because I would like to identify everything I have and go from there.

I don't see me upgrading to a BAT (Big Ass Turbo) any time soon, I mean jeesh the thing is fast as heck now... I can only imagine with a "real" tune.

I know everyone says "WIDEBAND" and soon I will get one, but I do currently have a narrowband, EGT, boost, Oil Press, guages. The NB seems to be accurate enough to tell me when I had a leak (showed lean) after fixing it, right back to stoic (however its spelled), and more importantly when I accelerate it clearly climbs and holds 1 or 2 lil lights away from "rich" so I feel pretty confident if I "leaned" out that guage would AT LEAST show me that, NO??

Sucks that I bought it from someone who bought it from the builder, so my info was limited. It seems like the fuel pump has been upgraded (or at least changed) but I assume upgraded because the injectors are upgraded, FMIC, HKS BOV, MSD 6A, no smog crap, the modded ecu (for what it is), etc...

Anyhow I was just hoping to identify the ecu/chip in hopes I could at least see if it was tunable by laptop/obd or whatever. Guess not :-/ lol
