Thread: Regrounding the O2 Sensor

The overall system diagram is page EF&EC-8, the AIV valve itself is described on EF&EC-16, and the AIV operation is on EF&EC-26.

So here are the snapshots of the O2 Sensor:

That looks like the correct O2 sensor. Is it the same size and correct thread as your old one? Those are not the Bosch Universal connectors. If you still have the old universal connectors, use those instead (much better protection and heat resistant).

And get that Alty installed!!

I'm not 100% sure that it's Part # 15727, but it looks exactly just like my old one, size and length and thread.

Here is my 3-Wire O2 sensor that I purchased couple months back and have been using without any problems.

I'm contacting an eBay seller to get a 4-wire Connector. I don't have a junk yard near by that will have new enough cars, with 4-wire connectors hehe. Once I get it all handled, I will post links

You should have taken my advise and stopped in a junkyard on your way back home on Tuesday... The connector would have been free!! Sometimes repair shops has old connectors & O2 sensors laying around.. Thats worth a check too..

I would, but I don't know where the closest junk yard would be, I only know a few local ones but all have older cars.

It's all good I think I have an idea.

I talked to my coworker, he is also into cars, he mentioned that grounding it on the block, where my wire connects to the block and goes to the Intake Mani should be sufficient enough, since an 8gauge wire goes to the Intake Mani from there.

Any car with a 4 wire connector will work... Just snip the wires about 4-6 inches on both sides and take the clip.. No big deal.. Age of the car does not matter. Take some wire cutters and have lunch at the Junkyard like I do on some days.. Such a lovely place for lunch... Just dont eat anything while there!

Tell your coworker to shut-up already... How many times do I need to repeat the engine block test results.. Whatever...

Anyhow, whats the status of the alty? We need to see if the O2 sensor mod works? And You are the donor car..

Haha its a bit of a drive to get there, I might need to go on a Saturday, but I think I will be fine even without a connector, I'll show pictures later

I know!!! I can't wait to drive her again! Miko shipped the Alternator yesterday, so should be here by Satudayish...

Then your test results will be flawwed and the difference will be by the difference between the two grounding locations... We have no idea what the quality of the grounding location is (Especially if you have other wires also grounded there) and no real data to support the mod improvements. We need precise real measurement numbers, not some shortcut inaccurate readings.

But, thats okay. I will pickup a 4 wire O2 later this week, remove the grounding straps setup, perform a true test myself over the weekend and post the results. We need to really know/prove if this mod will provide true improvements or if it is a unnecessary mod with small improvements to the O2 signal at low RPMs & idle. This can only be accomplished with the correct setup.
