Yes temperature makes a major difference in the volumes of liquids, in this case gasoline, and gases.
This link describes the loss of energy that could be accrued in the pumping of ~14 gal. of gas. It's about 40 cents. That is nearly 3 cents a gallon that you are not receiving.
