Yes, you want to disconnect the brake line and take everything else brake related off the donor vehicle so that the caliper will be centered correctly over the rotor on the upgraded vehicle.

Agreed 100% on upgrading the m/c, otherwise you will end up with a "mushy" pedal.

Is there a difference between the Altima master cylinder and the NX 2000 master cylinder?

bore size

"1995-1995 U13 Bore size of the Altima master cylinder is 15/16" compared to 13/16" or 7/8" stock piston bore"

Which size is the NX, which size is the 200SX SE-R?

Well, according to Rock Auto, 7/8" is the size of the ones listed for the NX 2000 and the same for the 200SX SE-R.

So, no difference between USDM NX 2000 M/C and the USDM 200SX SE-R M/C?

Altima is the only way.

And for the Altima SE, Rock Auto has a 15/16" bore size and a 1" bore size master cylinders listed....isn't that interesting....

The following two (2) answers is what I *think* based upon reading this thread. Let's see if anything sunk in....

If Rock Auto is correct (the USDM NX2000 M/C and the USDM 200SX SE-R M/C are in fact the same), then you should be fine with the stock 200SX SE-R M/C and your planned upgrades. Which is basically a USDM NX2000 stock set-up with better pads and SS lines.

According to icerace2, upgrading to the Altima M/C with your proposed set-up will not yeild optimum results. The upgrade is counter-productive.

It is only when you add in the upgrade to the Maxima SE/P10 rears that you want to go with the Altima M/C.

Please (somebody, anybody) correct me if I am wrong.

I'm clueless on that one.

I only took the extra step on the P10 rears after Rodney had a set he threw in for a package price. I couldn't resist. Which is when I really, really started reading the shit out of this thread. Trying to get a grasp on what else exactly I needed to order from Greg V.

And yes, Rodney also has me covered with all the hardware, brackets whatever.

I'm not sure if the NX m/c and B14 are the same size, I know NX calipers are bigger and I would think a slightly larger m/c would be beneficial. Maybe Greg V can check the Nissan database and chime in. You are correct in stating that you have created an NX setup with better pads and lines. And if it was me I'd get an NX m/c as well.

That is the correct answer. You need the additional fluid movement because you have now added larger rear calipers.

Which he got from me in a trade a while back and so with some new rotors and good pads you should be good to go

Fixed that for you.

Awesome, seems like something soaked into my thick skull.

I *suppose* that someone (mechanically adept trail-blazer) could install a proportioning valve, make their own brake set-up with whatever up-sized parts they wanted, and then go test the hell out of it and adjust the bias back and forth till it stopped the vehicle correctly.

Which would all be waaaaay beyond my capabilities. I just love the idea of the Nissan Engineers designing the "brake system" no matter the level of the upgrade, because of the oh-so-tricky brake bias and proportioning.

I won't be fast in PA, but I'm gonna be able to repeatedly stop on a dime.

The bore may be the same, but I'm not so sure the proportion of pressure front/rear is the same between the two MC. My understanding was that they are different because of the larger caliper pistons of the AD22's. I could be wrong...

I would take the rockauto.com listings with a grain of salt.

For instance, if you look at the information for the "RAYBESTOS Part # RPD549" which is the pad for the AD22VF calipers, it will tell you that it fits the B13 Sentra and Sentra SE-R as well. That's only true if you have converted to the NX2K brakes. So the MC being listed for both cars doesn't mean that the Sentra ever came with the same MC the NX did.

I may just have to do this, but I'm going to try the NX + Maxima + Altima setup first. because my car is a rally car, what i want is the fronts to lock up only ever so slightly before the rears. that way the fronts lock up first in straight line braking, but I can lock the rears when left-foot braking in turns without any more drag on the fronts than I have to have.

The front bias on a stock SE-R is so heavy in the first place, adding the NX brakes just makes that worse. I'm hoping the Maxima brakes help swing it back at least to where it is stock, and then we'll see about playing with an adjustable proportioning valve. Since I'll be running the rears off a single line anyhow, in order to run a hydro handbrake, it's a pretty easy thing to add.
