I've been trawling through these forums for the last week and half reading up on COP and CDI setups for FWD SR20's... lots of people talking about using (or any way to avoid) a CDI box, but no one mentioning brands/models or any further info on CDI boxes.

Just to confirm: if going COP using CDI pencil coils, using a standalone ECU you need a 4-channel CDI box. (for eg. M&W PRO14 $800USD+). People keep mentioning single or dual channel CDI units, is this setup in a wasted spark config or something or is it not a true COP setup?

Also, no one has noticed that M&W will probably void warranty and refuse to help if using AEM coils? says right here on page 7: http://www.mwignitions.com/pdf/Pro14_S3.pdf
"Do not use AEM Pencil coils under any circumstances!"
Which part number AEM pencil coils? if theyre the same Denso CBR coils, then would M&W treat the Denso coils the same? is it just a blanket statement from M&W due to having numerous issues with AEM gear?

A single channel unit would be for use with the stock distributor, and a single coil setup.
A dual channel unit could be used with four coils (COP or CNP) in a wasted spark configuration.
