Looking for an affordable GPS system for my wife
She needs a GPS system for work. I saw a few Audiovox and Garmin units on sale for $199.00, but if i can get them cheaper I will. And how does it work w/o a subscription? a friend of mine has one and she does not pay a service.

GPS runs off satellites, has nothing to do with a subscription service. No GPS does. If you have a laptop, you can get multiple PC based solutions for $100-$200. I run a Globalsat BU-303 USB GPS receiver with a software pack called iGuidance 3.0. IT works GREAT!

Garmin all the way. I made the mistake of not buying one and now I am kicking myself.

lol ,, I think I'll stay home on that one,, I believe it would be a big waste for me to go big and high tech!

more of the simple type (just use a map) besides I tried to use my TomTom today while in Kernersville Nc to try and get to Welcome Nc and Tom said Welcome did not exist.. hmmm go figure,, it was only 20 minutes away from where I tried to enter the city and zip.... just would not work so I used the high tech sprint cell phone and called for directions
