Thread: Who was it that custom fit afr gauge in factory cluster?!?!?!

not to long ago i came across a thread where SOMEONE placed their afr gauge within the factory cluster (b14 i think) by replacing the coolant temp gauge. i believe the drilled a hole but im not sure as i cant remember but it came out pretty clean and everything still worked. i would really like to do the same but I CAN NOT FIND THE FREAKING THREAD!!!?!?!!?!?!?! if anyone can locate it or point me towards it i would be greatly appreciated as i can not locate it for some reason. THANKS IN ADVANCE

In my honest opinion I would not do this mod because you really should only need the AFR for tuning purposes. Your engine temperature however is definitely more vital and immediate in destruction if something goes wrong. If your AFR is off and you have a gauge somewhere else you will more than likely know because it won't be running right and you can check the gauge. By the time you smell hot metal from an overheated engine the damage is usually done. I always question why a mod has been done in the first place. What is its practical merit? If its an engine parameter than I would keep the most vital in the most visible locations, which the factory does.

This is, as I said just my opinion, take it for what its worth.

i have tunerview which displays the actual coolant temp in degree's, so the needle gauge would no longer be needed

Yep, that was me... I originally did the "chriscar mod" and had the vdo water temp gauge in that spot but the AEM wideband is not nearly as deep and fits with much less disturbance to the circuitry in the back of the cluster. Also note that I have coolant temp, oil temp and oil pressure gauges mounted in a 42 draft designs bezel in tje factory radio location.
