Do you have one of those silly stereo systems with big capacitors for the sub(s)?

Lol no.....it's suppose to really warm up this weekend so I'm going to close the hood and see if I hear the noise. So far with the hood ajar the sound hasnt come back...maybe it was some weird thing going on due to the extremely low temps?

The reason I asked is that could have been a source of power. If not and the battery has been disconnected I'm going with the rodent theory too. The low temps may have prompted a furry woodland creature to seek shelter in the warm confines of your air filter.

I get why it would be rodent theory, logically i thought that also, but the sound isnt any type of creature. Its to perfectly spaced and exact. Every tick exactly the same, spaced and sounding like the clicking of a relay. Also nothing in the sound changed from the morning from when i came back to listen after work. It was coming from the pass side by that long relay box, filter is on the other side. I opened the hood an inspected for any signs of a rodent problem and turned up nothing. I banged around the area hoping for a cricket theory (when you get close to crickets they stop chirping) but the sound continued even when shaking the car. Also mentioned now that I have the hood ajar the sound hasnt returned. Now that its warming i'm gonna dig around in there and double check everything. The closest thing I could think of as far as a creature noise that perfectly "symmetrical" (i know not the right word but you get what i mean) is a cats purr, but even that has variations and such in the pitch and tone over a 12 hr period

Very interesting. I can't wait to hear what's causing this.

Am I the only one who had the word Squirrel come to mind?

Ok. So the sound did come back, but I found the source was both Alarm relays in the relay box on the pass side. I went in the trunk to check the battery, looked like the kill switch wasnt fully killed. It looks like it was enough that nothing else worked. Must have been enough juice slipping by to cause some sort of issue with the alarm to click its relays. So now thats its fully disconnected lets see if that issue doesnt come back now lol. Fingers crossed.

And just so you know what I'm talking about the sound it was making and my thoughts on what it was being dead on (clicking relays) here is a sound clip i took of it with my cell phone laying on top of the relay box.
