anyone do a diy car computer?
my in-dash screen head unit is old and is im sure gonna die soon. I was looking into new ones but for cheaper i was thinking of just doing a car pc. Lookin to see if anyone has done this or know how about to do this. i was thinking of using a raspberry pi and a 7" touchscreen like this only problem im having is trying to figure out how to hook up speakers and the subs as i wanna make this stand alone cuz i dont wanna use a headunit and run the pc on aux unless i really have too. i plan to have a usb gps and run a rooted android os

Personally, since tablets are so cheap, I would run a 3G/4G 7" Android tablet with an USB GPS hooked up to it. 230V inverter and the standard charger. Some standard stereo hidden with the tablet connected via AUX. Then you could run spotify/have your own music collection running with a nice car touchpad interface program. Dom't bother with the raspberry, the hardware is ancient.

I did something similar, I put a samsung galaxy tab 2 7.0 as a double din, hooked up to the stereo via aux cable. Check out my build thread to see a picture. Whats not in the picture is an added potentiometer to the left on the bezel so I could easily adjust the volume
