the hazard switch thing I believe is to allow you to be able to turn the fog lights on with out the parking lights. yeah look and see if that two prong plug is plugged into a normal antenna in the dash.

you kill me..... nissan has 2 styles of antenae plugs, and the 3 plug adapter has two nissan styles + 1 that goes into the back of any aftermarket head unit which is tension umbrella style.

Diversity doesnt mean 2 separate antenaes, its a marketting gimmick from back in the day which they believe two antenaes receiving signal is better than one. In actuality its only one antenae system.

Well next time im in there i'll check further down the line to be sure its not an adapter as cortrim is saying, and if not i'm just gonna go with that little "Non Diversity" adapter in the first link in the original post i suppose. I was just curious as I didnt find a real answer in my searching and figured if i'm gonna have to buy an adapter, might as well get the one that allows me to get optimum signal-age. But i guess either way (Diversity and Non-Diversity) doesnt really matter much, if at all..

Follow the antenna lead back into the dash and you'll find what you're looking for. It may be wrapped in the foam just behind the two prong plug you have outlinned. You should also find a single thin lead tied into that two prong plug. That's the lead for the antenna in the back window.

The diversity system did indeed use two separate antennas, the vertical mast on the front fender and the horizontal antenna embedded in the back window above the defogger. Not a gimmick at all, one vertical and one horizontal receiving together does reduce "fade" and improve reception, especially in town amongst tall buildings where radio signals bounce, twist and turn all over the place.

Here is some not so light reading on the subject: http://www.astronwireless.com/topic-archives-antennas-polarization.asp

Yeah i checked it out yesterday, ill try and get a picture up soon. Right where that foam is, theres a single antenna plug [that i would use in any other head unit, what i was looking for] that plugs into the adapter you see in the pic and that adapter has a wire coming out of it thats part of the adapter that leads behind that dash also (my guess the back window, smaller antenna) and the adapter connects the 2, giving me double prongs.

So by using only the bigger unpluggable single prong I would loose the rear window antenna correct? With that being said, if i wanted to keep both i assume i'd need another adapter [going from double to single] that would keep diversity....?

So i'd go with this one? I see the bigger feamle end would be where i plugged in the double prong from my picture above and the male end would go into my head unit, but my question is, what is that female end in the center for?

**May have figured it out**
I would separate my 2 antennas, run the double prong into the bigger female (for rear) and single prong into the smaller female (for front) which would connect the 2 into that male end i'd put into my head unit...lol if you can follow that

Honestly you don't need the back window antenna, the fender mast will do just fine unless you spend a lot of time driving around downtown big city USA. Pull the single plug out of the adapter, plug it into the back of the head unit, tape up the adapter with the lead to the back window antenna, stuff it back in the dash an call it a day.

If you want to keep both you'll need an adapter...

This adapter is universal, in your (our) application the smaller female end is unused. Leave everything intact, plug the double lead into the large female end, plug the male into the head unit and be done. Both antennas will now be in use. I think I have that exact adapter in my shed.

Yeah, i just figured if I have it, why not use it lol. If your not using it i'd take it off ur hands lol. Yeah i figured it would either go the way you said (where the center isnt used) or the way I was saying with plugging each antenna separately into it giving me, i guess, the same result, but using all 3 ends. Thanks

I'll see if I can find it, again. You pay shipping and you can have it. I'll let you know.
