Damn you, Sony!
I bought a Sony head unit at a local retailer. Just a cheapy until I have the $$ for my double din and the custom fab work I want done. Model CDX-GT575UP... It clearly states that it has Android Music Playback support on the front of the box. I took this to mean that it had USB support for android devices, but I can't get the damned thing to connect to my phone. Looks like I'll have to shell out more $$ to get one that will work. I think I'll be going with Kenwood or Panasonic this time around...

I have the kdr80bt(panasonic) it will work with android but only through the blue tooth connection. it only charges via the usb port. now my ipod works fully through the usb port. p.s. kenwood and pansonic use the same control app for android. my advice would be to use the aux input for your phone.

^^^ That's what I read. Unfortunately, no. I have a Samsung Galaxy SIII... one of the best Android phones on the market, and it won't even connect... Just says NO USB SUPPORT

That's what I get for trying to save some money somewhere on this car. I don't go cheap when it comes to parts, but a head unit isn't quite as important as a proper ball joint or water pump...

Seems pretty straightforward. It has USB input, and the SIII certainly qualifies as a modern device. Have you tried other android phones? You're not going through a USB hub are you? Is USB out crippled on your phone maybe? You've tried accessing files on your phone through USB to your PC?

You need to connect as a media source in order for it to work.Thats if it will work at all. I also have the s3 and it did not play through the usb on my panasonic. I tried several other head units as well and found the same thing.
