Thread: Amp recommendation please

I need a decent, inexpensive 4 channel amp that has the ability to do a 3 channel output. One channel to power my 2 subs and two channels to power my components.

Subs are rated at 200w rms and speakers are rated at 100w rms.

I currently have the Power Acoustik STAX 1200/4 (STAX1200/4). I got it for around $110 about 6 months ago. Might be hard to find now because they are a little old but they sound amazing. Currently running 4 6.5" Infinity Reference Speakers. Also my friend has just installed an Infinity sub on the same amp and it sounds real good.

You need a 3 channel amp with separate power supplies to really do this cleanly. The 2 channel will be a class a or b and the third channel will be a class d. What is inexpensive to you?

Here's the thing. I want to be able to do this as cheaply as possible. I have a 2 channel Kenwood amp that will not fit the bill here. So, my thought was buy another amp and sell the Kenwood to someone who can use it keeping out of pocket expenses to a minimum. I'd like to keep out of pocket to $100 or less after selling my Kenwood which should fetch around $50 bucks or so.

I have seen it as low as $159 online, but don't have time to search around for you. The PPI 5 channel would work best for you I think. You can bridge the 4 channel side if you want to.

If you havent decided yet give this guy a call i went to high school with him and he went on to be a enineer and he has even worked with hi-end companies to make his own like of quality gear. He has forgotten more about car audio then most will know. I used to be a saleman for him. Tell him magoo sent you ive been known by that name since i was a kid. He will treat you right. Tell him you budget as well.

I honestly believe 90% of the quality comes from wiring. If wired correctly, using a heavy gauge wire, and your subs subs are wired in correct series/parallel to atch the impedance your amp is rated, it will sound good. I had 2 12s on a 4/3 channel 600w Sony amp and it sounded amazing even compared to friends with higher quality set ups who just slapped it all together hoping for the best. I actually still have that amp for the low if you want to buy it. $30+ship.
