Thread: Ground wire in trunk

So I had a audio place move the battery to the rear. They got the leftover ground cable in the engine bay and bolted it to the body of the car, then in the back they bolted the ground to body in the rear. I was thinking I should put the ground on the strut tower but whatever. Now I am experiencing issues with the lights (all of them) dimming in intervals dim, normal, dim, normal..,. This is at high rpm only.

Would this be my ground or would it be my volt regulator on my altinator. I have replaced my altinator with a p11 but that was a while ago and haven't had issues since the installation of the battery in the rear.

The audio store clearly messed something up if there was no issue before they moved the battery compared to after.

Do not put a ground on a suspension part. Grind away the paint in the trunk on a spot where you want the ground and bolt that sucker to the body that is nice and shiny metal.

it is grounded right next to the seat belt bolt.

To be honest, I think it has to be the volt regulator. Just doesn't make sense that it would be the battery since the altinator is doing all the work after the car is started. I am going to replace the altinator. I did get it from autozone so...

Did they leave that part of ground wire from the chassis to the engine block?

your main ground should be on your chasis leg in some way... if you said on the seat belt bolt, that would be better (than next to)

The alternator doesn't just go bad from a battery relocate. Your ground is not adequate or your wire is not thick enough/bad connection. Move the ground first before you go spend the money and time on replacing an alternator.

Wouldnt hurt to upgrade/replace the ground wire to the alternator also.

The ground to the block is still there.
I guess I will go ahead and see about finding a better ground.

what gaue did they use for the + going to the trunk?

I always use the spare tire well for the ground point when relocating the battery. make sure to strip the metal really good on both sides and bolt the ground in place. I also use washers on both side to increase the surface area of the ground point. I have never had a issue when doing it this way.
