The last thing I can think about is that you might have switched the polarity of the 2 illumination wires.

You can check this easily. If it's wrong, the backlight won't work as well. As well as one of your taillights. And probably the interior dome lamp as well. Why? Cause those are all on the same fuse in the fusebox under the dash.

If it's blown, you surely switched polarities.

You should verify if everything else works properly (this includes your taillights).

Also, have you checked it in the dark?

I'm running out of options :P

No modifications were done to the stock dimmer knob, when my car is switched on the backlights come on with the headlights and I can controll it with the dimmer knob on the cluster. Stock knob does nothing but the actual gauges don't light up

Hmm My dome light and one of my tail lights hasn't worked from before I started the swap but the backlight for my cluster still worked, whenever I tried changing the fuse for the dome light it blows instantly, I'm thinking it might be from were my tires rubbed a few wires naked in my wheel well

Okay, noted.

Clearly the backlights work. This means that the connection between the illumination pins on the yellow plug and the wiring in the car is there.

Final thing to check is to make sure the wires coming from the center plug on the digital cluster are wired correctly as well. If the polarity is switched, the cluster might not light up either.

As I'm typing this, you've made another comment regarding the taillight and the dome light.

Are you SURE this was the case before you did the swap? I'm not sure what wires would be naked in your wheel well, cause there shouldn't be any. And even if they were, there's the plastic wheel-well inserts.

I have accidentally switched polarities before, and I had the exact same problem (that's why I mentioned it in the first place). Even though it's weird that the backlight still works (which shouldn't, because it's on the same group as one of the taillights, please check which one in the fusebox, and see if the fuse is still blown, do this for both taillights), switching the polarity of the illumination blows that fuse.

Is that fuse still blown as we are discussing this?

Try disconnecting the illumination wires that go to the center (black) plug, replace the fuse, and turn on the lights again. If the fuse doesn't blow, re-attach the wires, but switch them this time, and see if something happens (either the fuse blows or not, the cluster might work or not).

Also, you could check for continuity between the two pins for illumination on the cluster (not on the plug, but the ones on the cluster themselves).

Ok I'm back at it, I took the dash harness back apart and found that the illumination wire on pin 21 of the yellow wire joints up to the center black blug but then branches out into two wires again, I initially had them both wired together going to the b13 side, was one of the wires supposed to go somewere else?

I'll check tonight again, I'm at work now, and they've disabled images linked from media-sharing websites :P

Okay, now I've had time to check, here's my thoughts:

First of all, whatever way you look at it, the should only be 3 wires. One coming from the black center plug, one from the yellow plug. These 2 should be joined and wired into the cars harness (let's call this the 3rd wire).

If you don't use the stock dimmer switch, then it's the same for the other set.

Can you please verify that the wire connected to the #21 pin on the yellow plug, is connected to the #2 pin (in my writeup) of the center black plug?

And that the #17 pin on the yellow plug is connected to the #6 plug (in my writeup) of the center black plug?

If not, make it so (WAAAARP 10!).

If so, then everything should be ok. If you still don't have illumination, switch polarities of both (combined) wires (21-2 pair and 17-6 pair) by switching the wires that come from the car.

Keep in mind: If that fuse I told you about is blown, you shouldn't be able to get any illumination at all. Replace it with a good one (and keep a second one for spare), and wire up the illumination wires. If the fuse blows, reverse polarity of the wires (switch them, but keep the pairing 21-2 and 17-6).

Let me know what results you get.
