Subwoofer Options?
Guys I am in the market for a nice affordable subwooofer/speaker box. I just want to run 1 speaker.

I have always been a JL audio fan and the biggest I went speaker wise was a 12". I have been thinking about trying out some sort of 8" sub with a compact speaker box.

My audio set up consists of the following

JVC head unit
Punch 200 amp (old girl has been with me for about 10 years)
Rockford Fosgate component speakers (tweaters, door, and rear speakers)

With the JL 12" this sounded amazing but, too much bass. I want the bass to be more moddest and crsip. Let just say I am out of the trunk rattle phase in life and I just want something to compliment my components and sound nice and clear in the car but, that will give me the output I desire when I want to crank it up a bit for my 500 whp weekend cruises

What would you all recommend? From speaker chocie to box design. Maybe a Bazooka tube may be the option?

if u go with 8in u can use smaller box = more room in the trunk . also could make a custom box if u willing to do that make it to your liking .

hellll no

i really like image dynamics id max's or any of their entry line woofers. They have always been crisp in a nice sealed box and not too much bass all the time

Rob,

I know you said affordable but what are you looking for as a budget, I can highly recommend the JL W7.

They make an 8inch although it doesn't really seem "affordable" but the quality is there.

Infinity is a good option, I think the best if you are not using it in competions

I used to have two 8" JL subs back in the day, and they sounded great. Super crisp and responsive, but they lacked the loudness I wanted. Probably because of the amp I had back then though.

My most recent setup had two 10" Infinity subs, and they were alright. They had enough bass and enough response to keep me happy, but really lacked the higher frequency bass.

Have you ever heard an Alpine Type-R? My buddy had one in his Cavalier and it was loud, and sounded really good. I was very impressed with it.

I had a 10 in alpine type r in a ported box with only 250 rms sent to it. it boomed. a good box makes such a difference, i sold it to a forum member last month
