Thread: Help me pick new front speakers ( B13 SE-R )

Whats up guys, So it appears over the years I have blown a front speaker.. Car had an amp go bad in the past which may have been transmitting too much distortion and damaged the speaker. Now it just rattles when playing anything more than treble.

I have been out of the audio game for a long time but do still remember a decent amount just dont know what is good for the price nowadays with everything selling out to chinese manufacturing etc.

Heres my current setup ( mostly circa 1999 or so ):

• Deck - Alpine CDA-9815 ( 4v RCA x3 )
• Front - MB Quart RSB130 5.25" Components w/ PRO Musicomp x-overs
• Rear - MB Quart RSB160 6.5 Coaxials
• Sub - 10" Kicker Solo Baric ( old round '99 or so sounds great )
• Misc - 3 pairs of RCA's to rear, 4 gauge power & ground wire.
• Amp - ( this part is newer ) Kicker ZX700.5 ( 70x4 / 210x1 RMS 4 ohms )
  

Back in 99 I wasn't sure if 6.5s would fit and already bought the 5.25" but now going forward I see it can fit..

Here is my current setup 1996 MBQuart RSB130 Compoents that mount in 1
location. Also have the MUSiComp x-overs



Im basically looking for a nice " not harsh & overly bright " sounding component setup that will fit good and not kill the bank.. Im by no means cheap but not looking to spend an insane amount. I mostly listen to electronic music with the occasional rap / rock..

I will probably end up getting some sound deadening materaial tu put on the door panel as well as a MDF spacer if it will fit to gain some clearance. I believe the depth limit in the B13 is around 2" max

So from reading it appears we have 2" of depth and these are 2 3/4 depth..

Anyone know if I throw in 3/4 MDF spaces to grab some more room if the door panel will clear? Ive come across some B14 installs with it done like this below :

Well.... I went for it, Taking my chances from my research I should be in good shape.

Just purchased the following for my front stage upgrade :

FRONT STAGE UPGRADE

• Speakers - CDT CL-61A CDT 6.5" Components
• 3/4 MDF Spacers
• Dynamat
  

These are 2.5 Deep they may be a tad too deep but with the 3/4 spacers I can grind the spacer down on a belt sander until it gives me just enough extra to clear the glass in the door. Then Ill trim the inner door panel.

Next main question will be where to mount the tweeters, From all the reading it seems closest to the woofer is preferred just surprised that all stock cars with tweeters have them higher up.

Where do I mount them hmmmm, What do you guys think? If location 2 have to make sure the handle clears it.

Yeah, that's my car. Couldn't tell you what will work on a B13 though. I actually had that MDF ring cut in half. So, it's really only 3/8" thick. I had to cut it in half because the door panel didnt fit properly with the 3/4" spacer.

Just get you a small sheet of 1/4" MDF at the hardware store and experiment with different thickness' until you find what works for you.

I ordered 2 pairs of 3/4 MDF rings from ebay, My plan is to put the speakers in the hole, See how far they go in and then put the rings on a belt sander until they are just as thick as they have to be without hitting the window. I will also hollow out any of the door panel that I can.. Standby for tons of pics and info that hopefully can help anyone else going fwd. Esp since im trying to do this and I cannot find info anywhere besides bits and pieces with nothing verified.

No problem. Feel free to use my pics. Good idea with the rings. I think some documentation and pics for the B13 folks would be good too. The topic does seem to come up fairly often.

If I recall I did trim the inside of my door panel a little bit as well. I'll see if I can find a pic of that later.

Thanks Tommy! Def pics always help, Im gonna start a new thread on my whole speaker install cause I think this will help any fellow Sentra B13 driver some insight on what needs to be done. NX maybe diff as it looks like they may have more room.

You're on the right path Daryl.

I was going to suggest a set of Polk DB6501's. They are a pretty good speaker set and would clear the stock depth or may need the included plastic adapter to give a tiny bit of space. This is all moot since you've order CDT's. I've heard good things about them.

I would suggest the #1 position for your tweets, that's how I set up my NX and the location worked out pretty well.

Thats also where I was leaning for the tweeters.. I should be doing the install this sat and will post the new URL in here.. Going to do a full write up on a new post with pics to help anyone else looking to do this kind of install.

I did this with my B13, I used some random pioneer components, spaced them out maybe 1/4" and put the tweeters almost at your two. The biggest hassle was finding a spot to put the gigantic crossovers.
