Yup, that's where you'd put the resistor.

But it'd be a lot easier fix if the socket was the problem after all

Well, I give up. I pulled out the dash and the gauge light that was flashing was the last one in the chain. So I don't think a resistor would help as it should hurt the first one in the chain first, right? I put in a new socket and LED and put it all back together. It now works. But now the first one in the daisy chain is flashing. Crapolla. That one has been working for a year without issues. I don't think these are made to be used with LEDs and I'm going to put the regular bulbs that came with it back in. Unless there is something else I can try? I really like the crisp color of the cool white in the gauges.

it just happens, ihad similar problems with my guage with those style bulbs, same thing they flikered then died. i used ebay specials, thats probably y but ive bought one goog one and its still kicking til this day, one year later

I've been running these same bulbs in two different B13 gauge clusters for about 2 years now and none have gone out. It is only in my VDO gauges that I'm having issues.
